i just finished glassing my 6’6" board today and i didnt want to do a gloss coat but i still would like to have that shine. could i possibly use a car wax or floor polisher to do the job? even temporarily? or what other product could i use??
there are a few different things you can use for a glossy finish.
some of the floor polishers work ok but you need a few coats to get a good sheen. there are products called seal skin and the like which I think are just these water based floor polishes and sealers.
you can use any number of acrylic clear lacquers and polish them up with excellent results if you know what you're doing with a spray gun and some cutting compound and polish.
2pack auto clear is tough as nails and polishes up beautifully but not for the average back yard guy to play with. very nasty chemicals.
A finish coat will not add too much weight and you will get a perfectly sealed longer lasting board that can be cut back and polished up to a wet look mirror finish.
Hope that's of some help.

So you are telling me that you have a perfectly sanded hot coat with out any burn weaves showing...all you have is perfect sanded hot coat? If that's true, then just polish out the hotcoat. Hotcoat will polish out to any grit...it just takes a bit longer.
But if you have any burn throught...I'm not talking about to the foam, but glass showing, those little rascals will wick water into the foam if not sealed. So I always think it's best to do a good gloss, or 2 pack spray job. Floorsealer, wax, homemade bees wax with honey, pine tar, Spar varnish.. all that stuff is just using borrowed time. If you want the board to last, use something that coats and kicks off hard. Then polish it out. Just do the gloss coat...once it's sanded out it weight like 4 oz on the entire board
