Introduction

Hey Guys, I have been lurking on here for a solid year and just finished my first build a couple of weeks ago.

This site is an amazing library of knowledge and I wanted to thank all the members who I have drawn from to make shaping my new addiction.

I used a buddy’s garage and tools for my first build and I want to buy my own stuff now. I live in San Diego, CA. Any suggestions as to places to get tools at a reasonable price?

Thanks again and I am looking forward to posting A LOT more builds!

welcome Andrew - nice fish!  Looking forward to seeing more from you.

try Koby’s swap meet.   You won’t find a Skil 100 but easy as pie to pick up:

trim router 15 to 30 bucks

hand plane 5 to 25 bucks

sandpaper 10 cents a sheet to 5 bucks a sleeve

hand saw 2 to 10 bucks

for other stuff Ebay works well.  Full face or half respirator, for example…

Specialized shaping tools, try Foam EZ,

the San Diego crew do a lot of trades too…if you need a few yards of glass or a couple fin boxes or leash plugs or a fin…its amazing what you can swap for a six pack of beer?

Awesome, thanks guys!

Beer is never in short supply at the casa, so it sounds like good currency to me.

If anybody is looking to get rid of an electric planer, let me know!! ;P

I might have one I could part with.  any particular one you’re looking for?

PS What part of town are you in?

I actually don’t know what kind to look for or any price points. I’m new to this and I used a buddy’s tools for my first build.

I live in Rancho Penasquitos, off of the 56.

Thanks!

Take your time and get the best tools you can.

Does anybody have an recommendations for a quality planer?
