I’ve been reading and following posts on Swaylock’s for a long time and feel inspired to try and shape a board. I’m not thinking it will be a new career for me, but I feel it would be a great way to get a better understanding of surfboard design and why things do and don’t work.
My first obstacle is that I don’t have the space since I live in a small apartment and I can’t afford to buy all of the tools necessary. Does anyone know if it is possible to rent space in a shaping bay with all of the correct tools? Preferably on the Northern Beaches.
Since this is an experiment and I’m not expecting my first board to stack up to an experienced shapers work, I don’t want to do it if it is going to end up costing nearly as much as a new board.
For my first board, I would like to shape a fish since that is where my surfing started and the type of boards I am currently enjoying the most.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
