If you guys can set this up for Sept. 21-23, 2012. I'll be there, and maybe I'll drag Oneula out there too. Next year my daughter will be a senior at Stanford, so it will be my last chance to kill 2 birds with one stone.
Looks like it was warm enough for this Hawaiian to enjoy.
The weather this year was perfect, not hot not cold. The water temp? I'd been surfing So Cal at about 65 degrees up to that point and thought I'd be freezing but I was actually sweating in my 3-4mm. A 2-3mm would have been fine this year. The hands didn't even hurt when I got in. I even saw some Norwegians with no wetsuits. well, I don't know if they were Norwegian but they were swimming with no wetsuits.
Hey Sharkcountry, maybe we could convince your daughter to do a Masters somewhere in California so you'll have an excuse to come for a couple more years. Or better yet, a PHD! How many Phds does it take to screw in a light bulb? One, but it takes them ten years!
We’re hoping she gets into a masters program, but it would be one of the 5 year plan type, so it would only add one more year. The last 2 gatherings were held one week after she checks in. I don’t have the extra time to hang out or money go back, so I need to make it all work out. We’re down to one income these days. Maybe I should sell some of my surfboards… nah.
My little one just started at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Her school year starts in mid/late August. It’s a heck of a drive to Big Sur, but I’ve gone from Stockton to Portland in one trip and back again in one trip.
A San Diego thing would work too. I have relatives nearby and my wife has a close friend there. We’d have a lot of people to see down there. The easiest is timing it with going to Stanford. I can leave my wife with my daughter and Bernie and I can come by and spend the whole day.
Up here the farther we push into October, the greater the chance of a rain storm. More swell, too. We had beautiful Fall weather. But 2 days later got a pretty good rain. The storm was originally forecast for our weekend. Something to think about and rain wouldn’t stop me from going. I don’t know what Sand Dollar does on a south wind. In SD we might not get any rain until February. Not as pretty, though. Mike
The last two Swaylock's events have been timed to follow the Jade Festival. I'm not sure what the Jade people have in store for 2012. It would really suck to compete with 10,000 people on one of Big Sur's biggest annual events. I'm sure the Jade Festival would be fun....but I'm sure the campgroung will be sold out that weekend...........................
