Is there is build that could withstand car temps in FL?

I could increase my surf days if I could keep my board locked in my car during work.  Keeping it in the office is not an option (I’ve tried).  Getting a new job is also not an option.  Car temps can easliy get to 120F or hotter in the FL sun.

Is there a build schedule/material/technique that would be less prone to delam or deterioration in this environment?  I would love to build a “car board” that I could keep in there at all times, just in case…

Have you tried a Surftech?  (get a used one on craigslist)  I don't know, but I'm inclined to think those proprietary skin formulas are pretty tough.

Just hard to keep wax on at those temps, might have to find something with a cork deck.

How about vac bagging a cork deck onto a surftech?

Hi Jef, I use some local 2# eps and epoxy resin. I leave my boards inside my truck while at work and have no problems. I do put up a sunshade in the windsheild and also have limo tint on my windows. On my break I usually grab a bite to eat and cool the cab down. The only delamn Ive ever had was on a 1# eps core(home depot foam) that was left in a board bag in the back of my truck on a hot summer day. Board bags hold in heat, I rarely use them any more.

Yuk…Surftech.  You are right, though. I bet that would be the easiest way for this to work.  I do like the cork deck idea.

jesus, do you vac bag or hand lam?  I don’t use board bags either, same reason.

Thanks for the ideas!

I do both, I vac bag a deck skin using wood or divinycell then hand lam the whole board. Some times I just glass my boards lite with 1 layer of 4oz bottom and top.

Just install a Goretex vent, let the board breathe. You’ll still have the issue of your wax melting, but the cork deck solves that.

Just repair a new Byrne tufflite surftech, its just a timberflex: fiber, 0.6 wood, fiber, no more PVC foam.

Dry your board in an hotbox improve temp stability. Use good EPS foam, let some resin go in foam when laming (resin micro or fine light spackle seal) and put a vent for more security if you want.

Sorry for my frenglish

HWS.  Just take the vent screw out and it doesn’t matter how hot it gets.

Gets pretty hot here too, and i recently got a Speedneedle fish. Im like you, i surf before work in the hot months, it means i can surf lots more than i normally do. BUT, same thing, i worry like mad about leaving the board in the car. Recently i plucked up the courage to do it. I took my longboard as well, and when i got to work, i put the fish ( in a bag, but with the zip fully open ) down first, put the longboard over it. Cracked all the windows an inch, and put the towel covering the sun facing side windows, so hardly any sun got it. I checked on the car every hour, and it seemed to not get too hot. I do however, get afternoon shade, so its probably only 6 hours of sun. I was stressed out, but like i said, it seemed to be fine, and didn't get too hot. Our carpark is internal though, and not accessible to the public, and we have security. If i had to park on the street i would leave it at home!!!
