Questions for you...
I'm just curious, I'm not knocking anything. What is the idea behind the deck? Kind looks like a step deck kind thing going on lenght-wise, i get that. But what about in profile, what are you trying to achieve? My mind is wide open to new ideas.
What is the CAD program that your using and is it hard to use for someone with 15+ years doing AutoCAD?
its aku shaper...its a free download and it easy to use...yeah the step deck lengthwise and as far as the rails...its going kind of off the santa cruz g-deck...more volume in the board while keeping the rails thin and responsive...not that its going to be a super high performance board...the last board i made has a lot of volume and big boxy rails...besides this looks different
I'm not sure what you wiegh or what you want to get out of this board, personally I think it will end up too boayant. Unless your a real beefcake I would condider losing the step deck otherwise you run the risk of it feeling corky.
the point of the tail looks way too thin (on the rocker cross section). on the plan view - If your going teardrop pin tail, push the wide point forward. if going fishy then i'd widen the tail.
I think a littel swallow tail would look quite funky.
Hi wroboman,
Your design looks very odd to my eye. The last 1/3 of your board does not match the front two thirds. If you widened the tail and straightened the rear curves some you would have a nice small wave fish or diamond tail. I'd loose the step deck thing, too. If your goal is to create something odd and different then I would say go for it and see how it surfs. Otherwise...... Mike
It reminds me of a playboat (kayak). Is that what your going for?
Seems a very odd design.
i can see what your thinking is here....do it!
The tail looks a little narrow and I think that board is going to be hard to glass. It looks like your trying to achieve the same thing that an S-deck would do but an S-deck would be so much more pleasing to the eye. I always try to think about what John Carper said in the Shaping 101 vid...something about "imagine how water would flow over the surface of the board". I know this is the deck but IMO it should still flow. It just doesn't flow. That being said...I think you should go for it, otherwise your always going to wonder. You could be the next Steve Lis or Bob Simmons.
