Interesting board Jim! That logo, “Daily Joy”, was it a spin off > of “Pure Joy”? My brother’s first board was a “Pure > Joy”. SteveA The name was from some mixed citrus I was eating one morning,“daily Sun”. I had a thought, what was surfing to me, but a daily joy, so that was the name of my boards for many years. I’d had a partner/financier in Rhode Island that over night wanted to be a jewler/bike shop rather than a surf shop. He had a conciderible bill owed to Clark foam and decided he wasn’t going to pay it. I moved to Fla. and opened up Daily Joy, not wanting to shoulder his bills to Clark. The lable slowly morphed to Jim Phillips Daily Joy and eventually to just Jim Phillips. I have contacted Jimmy Phillips up in Santa Cruz to redo my Daily joy with the look of the Cow Palace poster art of the era, you know how the summer of love/retro look is bitchin’, so one day I will reserect Ole’ Daily Joy. That board was most likely done in 75’-76’ at my factory on Manatee Lane in Cocoa Beach, it had formerly been Claude Codgen’s Sun Shine factory. What a bunch of hippies we were!!!

Jim, Charlie P., he’s still in the jewelry business, in Wickford.
Jim,>>> Charlie P., he’s still in the jewelry business, in Wickford. Yeh, and a darned millionaire with that stupid idea of a jewlery store.
Yeh, and a darned millionaire with that stupid idea of a jewlery store. Jim, Back in the late 60’s, I’d see him for obvious reason’s which I won’t discuss here, but I don’t think I’ve been in his company 3x’s in 30 years.

Jim, I remember you telling me that you have shaped for Hap (as well as many others). I of course registered it as Hap Jacobs but failed to make the connection to my first board until I saw your stinger posted. It was an orange top and blue bottomed ‘Jacobs’ (not sure if the same company) stinger model with a swallow tail. It was VERY heavy and strong. I now have a feeling that you may have shaped it if that was one of the labels that you had a hand in because it was very similar to the board posted. That whole circle of life thing – kinda cool when you think about it. By the way, it was the board that fired the stoke within that has burned brightly for over 25 years. Magoo P.S. I am planning on going down to Encinitas in the near future and I will get that template back to you. Thanks Bro. M
