just so wrong...

Big Wave World Champion Garrett McNamara First To Surf Giant Wave On A WaveJet Propelled Gun

	PRESS RELEASE

WaveJet brand Ambassador, Garrett McNamara, who recently rode a 90ft
wave in Nazare Portugal achieved another first in the world of surfing.
Garrett, while on location in Portugal for the WaveJet sponsored World
Tow in Championship qualification round caught and rode a huge rogue
wave estimated at 50ft on his Personalized Water Propulsion (PWP)
powered WaveJet 10’ 6" Gun.

“The ride on this huge wave justified everything that WaveJet has sought
to achieve with its awesome technology”, commented McNamara. “The
ability to track down and get into the wave with the WaveJet propulsion
pod locked into my board and utilize the power as I rode through the
wave was incredible. It was so amazing to kick out and not have to
paddle to get out of harms way and get right back to the peak to catch
another wave. WaveJet is truly revolutionary to the sport of surfing.
This is just another example of the many positive impacts it’s having.”

this is just so wrong on so many levels…

I can see all the SUP guys here on Oahu moving on to jet boards.

why not just ride the wave on a jetski ... sounds so shit, the next MOUNTAIN DEW EXTREME SPORT perhaps lol

You know the end of the world is nigh when SurferMag runs a pic of some German kid taking on Honalua Bay on one of these.  Last year he could barely paddle a funboard but this year he charges on his Hover-round.

"Hey man, you don’t own the ocean.  It belongs to everyone.  "

So wrong… is right…

Here’s the word: http://www.surfingmagazine.com/news/garrett-mcnamara-surfs-giant-wave-on-a-wavejet-propelled-gun/

And this… http://www.surfingmagazine.com/news/wavejet-ambassador-garrett-mcnamara-breaks-world-record/

Looks like somebody combined the two. Just a bit misleading, that’s all…

These boards will do nothing to propel the sport forward.  Atleast a jetski allows guys to practice airs all day long or tow into unrideable waves on tiny boards... The wave-jet just boosts the wave count for for the wealthy weekend warrior or trust-funder! The wave jet should only be used by lifeguards and the disabled and I pray the Coast Guard makes everyone on one wear a life preserver.

And a horn or whistle and a light and a very expensive annual registration tag.

If it's motorised shouldn't it be registered and abide by all the laws applying to boats and motorised craft? And stay a minimum distance from shore?

If not.... at least it's quiet, I think?

A pox on anyone who buys one of these things!!!!

it's so off the scale it's past wrong,

going in the way of ,"pro sports" like basketball ?

or to put in a clearer term......................

......................"anything for a buck".

herb

I really can't see too many people buying one and going out to surf 50' waves. And if they do, most wont come back. Goes to show, marketing is the greatest tool when you have something to sell.

Add this to the equation....

Man that is fugging tragic!! If you're prepared to do that you might as well ditch your real wife/gf and get a blow up doll!

Everybody wants to surf but nobody wants to learn how.

Pissed my self laughing!!!

I can’t help but wonder how long until somebody who can hardly swim drowns and (at least here in the U.S.) the knee jerk reaction will be to outlaw oceanic boardsports.

As others mentioned - the bottom line is that they are motorized watercraft. Therefore they are required by law to yield right of way to surfers, swimmers, kayaks, windsurfers & SUPs - even boats under sail. IMHO They should also be required to have some form of registration and licensing / classes.
