Guys, Sorry this isn’t design oriented, but I have an IMPORTANT question for you and I know you all will give straight answers. I’m going to Baja next week and need info on k 181. Does it take a South, Is there a beach? Can You camp? Is it a point break? I’d normally go somewhere else down there, but I’m taking wife and daughter and they need beach and I need waves! MAHALO!

The nice thing about going there is the turn off to the beach is paved(lots of potholes) Turn right where there should be a sign that says “Ejido Erendira” There is a little farming community at the end of the road near the beach. The gas station often doesn’t have gas-keep that in mind. If you go right-across the rivermouth-there is a nice big beach with sorta fun, funky waves. If you turn left and follow the dirt road north along the cliffs you will eventually reach some pretty nice places. After going through several cow catcher gates(make sure you shut them after going through) you eventually reach Punta Cabras. A wierd left and beachbreak that breaks over a huge clam bed. Nice beach, but if you are going to park down by the sand dunes you’ll need the proper vehicle. The water is FREEZING all year ‘round. It’s impossible to get lost around there as long as you stick by the coast. Decent fishin’. Fellow surfers, please do not get mad at me for giving this info out-I figure everyone on this site is cool. Consult a map(the Baja Book is okay). Have fun. Oh yeah, I think it picks up just about any kind of swell. Usually cold offshores in the morning and then the sun comes out. Less windy than a lot of Baja spots which is good for the wahines.
Uh, I can’t believe I crossed up my rights and lefts(I’m a switchfoot-so maybe that’s it) anyway-South across the rivermouth is the big beach with the funky waves-North, the road cruises along the coast and takes you to neat little coves, etc. Go past the burned out old big ranchero house to get to main surf spot. whew

Is Cabras the same as 181 or are they diffrent spots? Tom
Old Coot, Thanks a lot for the Info! Is Cabras the same as 181 or are they > diffrent spots?>>> Tom Punta Cabras is different. 181 is the rivermouth at the end of town. Cabras is north, which I feel is nicer. Lots of stuff to do:exploring the sand dunes, fishing, surfing, etc. The south end of the Punta Cabras “bay” has fun longboard waves, while the north has a good barreling left for shortboards. Don’t blab about it too much to crew hanging out in the parking lot. I feel guilty enough talking about it here on the internet. We want to keep it for families-not drunken yahoos…
