keel fin template

I’m looking for some fin templates. Any kind will do(single fin, thruster, keel fins). I have wanted to make fins for a while and have also been looking for a project to do with my dad. He loves woodworking and he wanted to make fins like these http://forum.surfermag.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=477705&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1.

If anyone has any templates PLEASE reply.

Thanks,

George

Seriously, if you want to make fins, DRAW up your own templates!

Copying someone elses templates don’t insure a good fin, you still have to foil it!

And what pride can you feel when you have to rely on other people’s templates?

Just find some finshapes you like, look at them, then draw your own.

For keel fins, it’s especially easy…base 9"…height 5"…how can you go wrong?

If you are not good at drawing templates, you might as well give up right now! Not being able to draw simple curves must mean you have NO eye…meaning you will have NO eye for foiling the fins!

So… draw you own templates on a piece of paper!!

Kellerfreek,

Send me an address vis message and I’ll mail you some keel templates. Mike

Leedd,

i would make my own but i have only been surfing for a little over a year and have limited fin experience

OK, fair enough.

Be consistent with squeegee/roller pressure when laying up the glass 5 layers at a time. Really try to keep the resin/glass content exactly the same for each set of layers.

You ARE laying up on a perfectly true form, like a plate of glass, aren’t you?

Some peeps are allergic to glass, so you might tape your wrists, wear a longsleeve shirt. If it’s too hot, maybe baby powder your wrist and forearms, to keep the glass slivers out of your pores.

Go slowl, have fun with the whole experience, and you can always make more fins.

Fin placing , how far apart from the stringer ???

Here’s a Lis keel fin template …

… use any graphics app to size it during printing so that the fin length is 9" and the height is 5"

For a Lis Fish with a 12"-13" tip-to-tip tail, the keel fins are placed parallel to the board center line, in line with the tail tips, the back of the fins are about a tad behind the tail cut …
