I have a fun twin keel fish that I take out now and then, usually at mellow points or reefs (cliffs). Since this spring I have been riding it more in beach break, and since this spring I have been feeling pretty bad pain in my hips in the hours and days after I ride it.
Does anyone have a comparable experience? Any ideas why?
I never have this pain after I ride a thruster or quad.
It would be nice to find how to ride it and have just as much fun, but no pain. I’m 30 and would rather not replace my hips anytime soon.
Maybe it’s from sitting on a wider board between waves? Thirty seems pretty young for hip problems unless you are a German Shepard. I’d go see a Doc or a physical therapist. Mike
Potential Sciatic Nerve issues? Does the pain run down the side of your / glut of the hip. And sometimes does it run all the way to across to the top of the shin?
If so consult your doctor for help. Your mileage may vary, May cause uncontolable bowel movements, or serious vomitting.
I tried sitting line-up style on a SUP the other day and that really hurt… especially cuz the paddle was still on the board… LOL!
Seriously, I sometimes get pain in my lower back. I had a “lumbago” a few years ago and sometimes it acts up, doc says it’s just irritation in muscles that cause spasms and stiffness, usually onset is a wipeout or fall that results in a shock to the affected muscles. The first time it happened was after snowboarding wipeout and shortly after that some serious pain after rock climbing ensued… I quit the climbing and things got better…
The board is 20.5 inches at its widest, so just 1/2 an inch wider than a quad I ride all the time with no problems. And the fish is working when I ride it, I find it surprising that it hurts since the fish glides whereas I have to pump the quad more aggressively.
At first the doctor was alarmed because the pain was sharp and localized, but x-rays were negative, so she just said “um… stretch a lot.”
I will talk to a physical therapist I know. The pain is right at the hip joint, so I don’t know what muscles I would try to strengthen. Of course I’m 210 in dog years so that’s always a factor.
