'keeler'

The keels are now 6 1/2" base x 5" depth [1/2" rake] , 2mm thick now on the leading edge , and 1mm thickness on the trailing edge. The base of the trailing edge is 9 1/4" up from the tail.

The trailer is 3 1/8" base x 3 1/2" depth [3/4" rake]. The base of the trailing edge is 3 1/2" up from the tail tip .

and of course I just sent you a PM involving fins, and now this- you’ve got to ride this and let us know how it works- twin keel with extra hold? Looks wild but those sometimes are the ones that work best! I’m really stoked on those Griffin 5 fins, the concept seems sound and they look like they’d be fast and fun- maybe I need to start a threadd and find out how Oneula likes his…

thanks for replying Kirk ! [I don’t really get off on ‘talking to myself’]

well, it worked GREAT , mate ! I had it out in some fairly hollow , fast , head-high and bigger surf yesterday , and it had just enough back fin to hold in , combined with just enough [less] keel to not be ‘tracky’ . (Fun , in a word !)

cheers

ben

…and ,

speaking of ‘five finners’ …

so it didn’t feel too ‘sticky’ ben? i mean, did it still have that nice keel glide & release as you put the board up on its rail?

“Uh? Whaddya mean: “put the board up on its rail”? How d’ya do that?..”

hi nat !

yeah , it felt MUCH better , on the one cutback I DID manage [the waves were a bit fast for heaps of cutties…]

i mean a carving turn, when one rail’s deeply buried & the other’s clear of the water. you know, balsa.

ps: viva la france, all the way to the final yet again!

I was just trying to sound humorous, as usual, implying that Ben only rode straight to the beach in the foam and didn’t even know how to TURN… Not sure if anybody understood… Humour is something difficult to play with in a foreign language.

Yeah, going into the final again, although the match was not great. I dug the one before against Brazil much more. Anyway, I’m not a football/soccer fan… The funny thing is, a few weeks ago all the (french) papers were saying: “The french team is full of aging men about to retire, Zidane is old and he doesn’t play half as good as he used to, etc…” Now, it’s: “Zidane did it again, proving he’s still the King, etc…”

balsa: ooops sorry mate. humour doesn’t always travel cleanly through cyberspace. but yep, i can picture it now, poor old ben catching straighthanders on his keeler, trying to work out fin dynamics while buried waist deep in whitewater, thinking to himself ‘maybe a fabric inlay-starfin-bonzer-quad’d go better. i’ll have to try it tomorrow.’ haha. (sorry ben!)

ps: i want france to win not only because they’re playing beautiful football, but because the italians knocked australia out. zidane for president i say!

It’s gonna be a hard one: my wife is of italian origins so she’s gonna support Italy whereas I’m for France (even though, as I said, soccer isn’t my “cup of tea”…)

“I was just trying to sound humorous, as usual, implying that Ben only rode straight to the beach in the foam and didn’t even know how to TURN…”

he’s RIGHT , you know .

I thought the ‘fins’ were just on a board to make sure you KEEP your nose pointed towards shore ?? […don’t want the darned board going sideways when I’m trying to head in a straight line right up onto the sand amphibia style , or anything …]

state of the art …cross-stepping from rail to rail , as I head straight for shore while holding my paddle , not looking where I am going , and waving to the " bathing babes", all at the same time …just for you , balsa !

Hey, speaking of football …

this must be one of the italians ??

…he should be penalised for handball, I reckon [sure looks like he got the PENAL part right , anyway !]

cheers,

ben

Mate your not funny…hang onto your day job…the fins are better.then they were…thats my compliment…watch your corners…smooth them out and your board will get smoother…not spinning out around the corner…aaaaa…they should be AAAAAAAAA and ***** E for excellent effort…Ive had a lot worse… just joking they are still a good performance fin…look at the board with 5 fins…which fin looks right?..or nearly …thats the fun of it…when it starts to work the way you want it tooo…or it gives you something you never thought existed…flying…bit harsh…

I think the next thing I need to do [for the 'bushfire fish’s plug’s setups] is to make a couple more blue tinted fin panels …

One , big enough for a fin box single fin , with two 3x3 ish size side fins [‘widowmaker’ setup] ,

and

one , to get two twin fin sized side fins , plus a 3x3"ish or 2x2" ish (one tab) back fin out of [''twinner" type setup]

Plus , as I said earlier , I probably need to make a thruster sized back finbox fin , too…

If I make fair few fins all the same colour , I can muck around with “complete” sets of all kinds of different setups , all in the same colour…
