He was riding a five fin today in the Quik NYC pro. Something about a smaller center fin of sorts.
Wow, Kelly won again !! Who really gives a …
He could win on a door with no fins !!
I have now seen the light. Now I know that kelly has won two events on a quad, and Al merrick thinks they are the best, im getting rid of all my other boards, and keeping my mckee quad board only!!!.
Me too. All my boards are going up for sale and a quad it is. Only thing is… If he wins a contest on a single I’ll have to switch back.
What an opportunistic time it must be for fin and finbox salesmen…
More power to them… I really mean that btw…
The more capital they have to work their R&D magic with, the better off we all are…
They could put the extra cash back into developing lighter, stronger more adjustable systems.
Or we could go back to the single 10" F.U. days and say F.I.
You dudes with your deep seated man love for Kelly need to get over the fact that he will never love you and will always surf better than you.
Hey there Billy.
We never started this thread, You did…
I’ve mildly followed Kelly’s career over the years and I’m very happy for the dude… Robby Naish, Mark Angulo, Fred Heywood, etc… were more of a “hero” to me in my chosen sport…
?>>>>>
Yes I did start this thread..... about quads. The fact that Kelly chose to ride them was only a secondary point to his recognition of the equipment and his recognition of the fin configuration promoted by Bruce McKee. I could have listed all the other pros using them on their guns, their tow boards, their SUP's etc. but that's not what caught my attention. What did catch my attention was watching Kelly win and hearing him talk about his equipment and Bruce McKee. Also because of the hype around the Tahiti contest and the fact that he won..... on a quad. I figured that would make an impression on the doubters or the people who have not yet tried a quad due to the negative feedback thrown out by the haters. What I didn't expect was the obvious pent up frustration and misplaced man love brought to the surface when the name Kelly Slater is mentioned. Kinda like all those politicians who thrash on gay's and then turn out to be gay themselves. It's clear to me now that some people feel the need to thrash on Kelly due to the self loathing they feel inside for the sick deep seated man crush they have on him. I don't see that sickness in you Kiterider so you can relax. You other guys need to seek some treatment. Now back to how rad quads are.........
Who’s Fred Heywood?
I’ve heard of Robbie Naish and Angulo (sups?).
here is the point Billy quads have been around for sometime and there are shape up and surfer that really like how a quad works. Those people for the most part did not need quads validated by some contest win.
What Kelly Slater did will have an effect on board marketing and quad sales. Young kids will get Mom and Dad to buy them one. adolescents will dream that a quad will propel them into surf stars 20 somethings with with self esteem issues will have to have one to look cool. Other then that it is still the Indian and not how many feathers you put on the arrow.
Now what would have been really impressive is if he had won on a Quad Fish!
Fred was the fastest man on a windsurfer many years ago and kind of “an average-man’s hero” if you know what I mean, and a good wave sailor at the time…
The Agulo’s were world class wave sailors at the time too and their father shaped some really cool boards including asymmetrical “can opener” tailed as well as “phazer” bottomed boards… When I took trips to Maui, I’d drool over these boards, we had nothing like them in Canada…
Robbie would be the windsurfing equivalent to Kelly, well sort of… There were many other greats like Craig Masonville , Bjorne Dunkerbeck (sp) etc…
Billy, Billy,Billy,
Everyone knows King Kelly is the best.Like I said before theman could beat
almost everyone on whatever craft he chose.
I’m sure Bruce does’nt need K/S to approve, or “Validate” his work.
The sheep will all now inevetibly jump on the bandwagon, just as the groovy people now ride finless creations and drive old shitbox cars with their hair in pony tails etc etc
Lighten up man …
Billy, I’m with you. All but one of my boards are quads. I don’t follow competition too much but love it when our hometown boy wins. And it is such a good thing that he give the credit due to McKee. If Kelly won on a single, I would yawn.
all the best
No billy, i think your pent up frustration is the key here. Obviously nobody listened to you when you raved about quads, which got you a little upset. Kelly wins and then it's "Me and kelly are right, they are the best board ever. We've known it for years. Anyone not riding one is a kook".
Most pro kneeboarders use quads. I read an interview of Rich Pavel where he explained why they were the logical evolution of twin keels, more drive, control and can be pushed harder than keels. I have a kneelo friend who swears by them in anything from waist high to 5XOH.
But would you yawn if he did it on a five fin?
Post of the day. Thanks for posting Senator Roberto Arango.
I haven’t seen anyone say anything but good about Kelly. The criticism is a freak who can ride literally anything and make it look good validates an already validated design. Mckee gets lots of credit here as well which is fine. Glad Kelly mentioned where he got his inspiration.
Right on Solo.
Billy, me thinks Beery is right !!
