Hey guys, saw the three days of the Pipe Masters (1st day was awesome) and noticed Kelly Slater was riding some blue trailer fins on his 6’1" Fred Rubble Pipe board. Noticed he was using the McKee placement. Also noticed he was using performance core K3’s in the front. The blue trailers look considerably larger than the K2.1 trailers he usually rides. Anyone know what they are? Are they PG5’s? if so, I know as a fact that the PG5’s are the same size or slightly larger than the K3’s. This is not a commonly used quad set up as usually I see people ride considerably smaller trailers than front fins.
they are the g1000 template , 80/20 foil , and they make them in different flex patterns for him .
also not 100% mckee placement
Aloha knowaloha! (Always wanted to say that jejeje)
G1000 are the template fcs sells with the K2.1, I guess that maybe it was the camara angle why I saw them large and then I probably asociated them with the glass G5 because of the blue color, thanks for the clarification. I have recently become interested in quads ands have read some threads in the archives, how does Slater’s fin placement differ from the proper McKee placement? From what I have read, keeping the rears closer together than rail quads gives the board more of a"thruster feel" (for lack of words that come to mind) off the top and bottom.
Whereas his boards rear fins are closer to the stringer per the Mckee formula, Slater also rides them further up the board, so the quad spread is a bit more compact.

Slater’s 2011 fin Arrangement…
Just curious - what does having the trailing fins so close to the stringer accomplish as opposed to having them so close to the rail
