here is pics and stuff from indo, this board model is obviously not made for pipeline but has some things similar design wise. its toned down for more all round conditions and surfing.
I agree with you, but I guess KS is more focused than the others. Sometimes, Parko looks too much relaxed. If he could concentrate a little bit more, maybe…maybe…
I really respect your opinion, but who dares to say the board choice of KS was wrong? Perhaps his first option was the right one: a 5’4’’ quad… (unfortunately broken before the first heat)…
hes so tuned into the ocean, how much of his heat wins have been from waves selection but also attitude. the others mentally crumble. any free surfing video shows that there are plenty of surfers at his ability.but he has a head for competition .
im looking forward to see what Paige Hareb does, a young taranaki local girl who just one a spot on the women drean tour.
keep your eye out for her, i think she will put nzsurfing on the map. I think parko will win a world title.

well Jeff , I guess I’m the one who dares.
KS already won the world title and I don’t think he really cared of Pipemasters.
If he won the comp on a regular board, it would have been just " another one of ks wins"
now when he nailed the comp riding on a weird board, everyone talks about him and he
achived the spin he always runs after.
now, I was just saying, out of observation at kelly’s rides… this board made him a hard time !
every ride looked like a rough hardcore ride and since he’s a super mega surfer… he made it !
just my thought’s , and sure he had lots of fun experimenting infront of the whole world watching…not to metion-
I keep seeing these small wave squashes and stuff put on here cuz they have the wp forward. there is more to the design than that I can guarantee you that. the pin is a crucial factor out there as the foil would be. I would imagine the foil would be similar to the MTF with a razor thin tail and most of the volume under the chest and a fuller nose.
Don’t think any of the boards posted here have the slightest resemblance to the board KS rode (with all due respect).
Ferals is the closest but KS’s owes more to a mid-seventies Free-Ride era singlefin with it’s WP well forward and pulled in pin back half.
Nothing too radical there…the WP and forward foil makes for a paddling machine; the pin gives control in the tube. It’s a template Shaun Tomson used with incredible effect.
The missing info are the rail profiles and rocker. Are they modern or are there retro elements?
I’d be guessing fairly flat entry with a long continous curve aft.
Totally disagree with Lee on it being a hindrance. The board obviously worked on super late drops and tube-rides. I’d say a slightly scaled up version would be a massive improvement on most step-up boards being ridden by intermediate/competent surfers in similar conditions.
These aren’t design innovations that KS/AM are coming up with, just a canny use of equipment outside the very narrow and confining box of modern performance shortboards enabling him to gain a real advantage over his competitors.
At this rate number 10 looks like a walk in the park for him.
Lennox, great analysis. When you are a surfer getting all the boards you could ever imagine for free, you can have a board made for one specific kind of wave at a certain size. typical shortboards still have their place in the quiver of the masses but it would be cool to see design element of this board brought into the normal step-up
i agree, as i said earlier mine is NOT designed for pipeline. more for all round surfing with tuberiding a priority. as we span history of surfing there has been many a design for specific waves not validated elsewhere. how many freaks of local beaches ride stuff that the average joe would never use as joe meanders around looking for the perfect wave. meanwhile the freak at the local beach has challenged the one place and really dialled his style and board in to suit it. KS is good enough to do that anywhere.
wide nose gives excellent stability when paddling so you can dig deep and powerful strokes without the board rocking side to side and loosing energy. the added boyancy allows you to lie further forward, again making it better for catching waves
just my opinion
they bog a bit on cutbacks but really drivey off the front foot for fast surfing
the board is not weired its functional
what everyone else is riding is weired because its holding back their surfing
Fitzy’s old quiver. Not suggesting these are the same as Slater’s I just wanted to post the link because of the flyer pintail in the foreground. That type of shape makes me think of Joel Tudor’s tubeshooter (think that’s what it’s called) from his new website.
Are you serious do you really think that Kelly would go out into a final on a board that he thought that wouls hold him back.I watched the final and I think he did some amazin things. Now if Kelly rode roys board that would be bad.
