Knee pads / paddleboard

I’m looking into building a paddleboard to help keep in shape for my too-rare surfing opportunities. I’m wondering if anyone knows about installing kneeling pads on a paddleboard deck? What are the pads used made from? Where can I get them- or the material to make them? How they are attached to the deck - Whatever light you can shed on this would be appreciated. To Swaylock: I’ve been lurking here for a few weeks. I’ve learned more about shaping, glassing, and color than I ever thought I could from my desk at work. Thanks to you for the forum, and thanks to all the knowledgable people who post and the good questions from the beginners. This is a really great resource.

The kapok inside is usually about 3/4 thick That material makes a great kneeling pad. Dimensions will vary with size of life jacket. It can be glued semi-permanently to the deck of your board with a glue called, “E6000”. This glue can be found in most craft/art supply stores. It’s an excellent semi-silicone type adhesive/sealant that will even cure underwater! I’ve been using this glue along with pull-tabs from aluminum cans to hang collector plates on the wall of my home for years. Though thoroughly cured, a couple of swipes with a razor blade or sharp knife is all it takes to remove it. As it will cure underwater, I’ve been thinking about keeping a tube of it with me for temporary ding repairs so the surfing day doesn’t get cut short. Heaven forbid, but if I ever do get a ding and do try it out, I’ll post my findings. Aloha, Old Longboarder
