Koa inlay and keels

Great board and fins. Sweet! Mike

awesome stuff!! I love the inlay work…any tips, tricks, or lessons to be learned from these? Would you do it the same way the next time?

Using a jig for inlay routing is much better than free hand, next time I’d take a little more time, make all pieces equal and jig 'em.

Brush on sanding resin and light sand before laminating. Also fill any gaps around wood

as air bubbles will form and well, that’s not happening.

Go cool on laminate batch, need time to push and fuss with all of the extras.

The friend this was built for was stoked, didn’t mind any of the flaws. Maybe because I only charged him for materials.

The koa was from his family land, he had climbed and played in the tree as a child. The design was to mimick his aumakua tattoo, shark teeth and quarter moons.

Got wood!

Is the pinline a koa inlay as well?

Maybe next time…

Well done.

I got to try something like that. I really like it. Glad to see the photos up and running.
