Aloha Sway brothers, Have got more info on what I am about to embark on with this cancer thing. The specialist on Oahu says she also feels the cancer is in 1 of my tonsils and there are different ways to treat it but since I also have some necrotic cells that don't repond to just radiation I will have to have surgery maybe 2 or 3 times and will be in the hospital for 2-3 weeks. Then I come home for a but thenback for radiation to kill any residual cells the may still be there. This is a lot more than I expected and isn't going to be fun. Seems the surgery will be the easy part and the radiation could be a nightmare, lose of teeth, taste, and more. I will be at Queen's for the time and any of my Oahu brother are more than welcome to come visit me for a pick me up. Once again you guys are the greatest and your support is unbelieveable. Aloha,Kokua

Kokua,

Bummer that it was not as simple as we all had hoped for you.

Now your in the impact zone with some heavy sets stacking up.

Calmness, courage and a strong will have seen you get out the back before and will, along with all your other strengths (not to mention sways friends) will get you through.

Suck in some deep breaths, focus your energy and duckdive the impact.

Giddyup Kokua, your’e a DA KING at Queens and leave the nurses alone.

Rocky the love doctor

Kokua,

My father has been battling cancer for 16 years now and it seems that this is going to be the last dance for him. He has done everything from radiation to wholeistic medicine, so to say the least he has done it all. The one thing that I think that you may want to look into is a book called “Body Ecology” by Donna Gates or go to www.bodyecologydiet.com. It is just a lifestyle that you take to only eat organic food and simply get you body at 100% so that it can help fight off cancer from within. It is worth a look at for sure. I believe in it so much I will send you my copy if you want, this is something that is close to my fam so if there is anything you need So. Cal way or you need a doctor on the mainland I know a lot of them.

Mahalo,

Tony @ S’n’T

Wow Kokua, that just went from a 10K to a marathon. An awful lot of your recovery will be attitude. Stay strong and positive. Tune in here and we’ll tell a few bad jokes to put a smile on your mug!

Take care Mike, all our thoughts are with you.

Kokua I know you’ll charge this thing like a clean up set and come out better on the other side. Keep up the positive attitude and give your body every chance to heal.

Aloha

Kokua

I have been surrounded by cancer for the better part of my life. My Mom, my uncle, my grandfather…the list goes on.

In my experience, strength of spirit is the ultimate regulator, and dramatically affects the physical condition.

Keep the spirit strong, when the body is weak.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Aloha my brother.

Right now I’m a little over whelmed with the results and some what of a shock state, but am doing my best to keep my spirits up and stay in a good frame of mind. Just a little hard right now and have so much to do before starting the voyage into the unknown. At least I may get to meet some of our Sway brothers on Oahu while there.Aloha,Kokua

my prayers are with you Kokua.

i’m sure you will have plenty of visiters while on Oahu.

wish i could make it

Not much to say that someone hasn’t said, just remember your still in paradise and I couldn’t think of a much better place to be. Thanks for all the experience you have contributed and I look forward to more. Sometimes with cancer it seems one step at a time.

Just a thought, get the laptop and pour out some soul by writing some surfing stories - kinda like good rides, it is difficult to get too much. Godspeed brother.

AHHH Man that blows!

Hang in there and think positive

Hope it turns out for the best

Prayers for a speedy recovery

Kokua, and anybody else messing about in these waters-

I have felt through the years that sometimes too much gets made out of the cancer diagnosis. The whole concept of diagnosed “disease” etc…it gets opressive, especially to patients and caregivers. Not to slight the situations we find ourselves in at all, but…

I have found that adopting the attitude that it is a “condition” makes it seem much less like some potentially insurmountable mountain peak. You do what you have to do but it’s just another part of life, even if it is radically new and scary. This has seemed like a pretty fair way of establishing some kind of foundation for positive thinking for me. I don’t know if this makes sense, I don’t belittle the situations and I respect patients and the med profession…I guess I don’t “respect” the malady. Any malady. Always seemed like direct surfer attitude…when the Boogyman shows up at the front door treat him rudely and with no respect. Beat him like he deserves, eh?

Nels

(Heavy sigh… Deep breath)

Ok - You know what’s coming…

I’m still for this - Copied and pasted this from the other thread - Didn’t get addressed, hope it’s not to off base/offensive.

Hope this doesn’t sound to “woowooee” - But, I’ve been reading about the power of prayer/positive intentions/vibrations/etc. to effect change across space, in spite of time - think distance “healing.”

What about a “Swaysperiment” - something to the effect we all do what ever it is we’d choose to do to send positive healing vibrations Mikes way. From what I understand it may be better to try to do it w/some coordination like on the hour, or do a group thing where we all do it for an extended period of time at noon island time, 2pm Pacific ( I think since it’s not daylights savings time.), 5pm Eastern, etc., or???

Give it some time. You’ll come around with a process that works. Day to day, or moment to moment if need be.

Sorry to hear the bad news kokua, stay strong and positive. I’m sure You’ll kick this and be back healthy soon! I’m sure all Your good karma will help You out!

Best wishes from a cold midwinter Sweden.

Howzit Taylor, I can feel the power as I write this. Makes me feel better already. Found out I can hook up a lap top to the hospitals phone connection and use dial-up so you guys will have blow by blow updates while I’m in the hospital. I consider that good news since I can stay in touch. Just rented that movie "Surfer Dude"hope it makes me laugh. Aloha,Kokua
