I was stoked to see , on a dvd , some recent footage of Gary Elkerton , in the Mentawais, with the Mt. Woodgee crew [from queensland ].
The 'old fella' has stacked on 'a few pounds' , his boards do seem a touch wider and thicker , but the gouges , his speed ( and even his woodchopping front arm [ Nat , and MP style] ) are still powering . Nice to see him smacking it hard backhand and getting barrelled off his big tits forehand ...." go , kong , go !! "

The word that springs to mind when I think of Kong’s surfing is ’ brutal '.Meant in the most complimentary way.
It’d be interesting to check out the boards he rides these days, for sure.
he used to ride wider and chunkier boards than most back when he was at the top of the tree, he used to live same beach as me and I even had a few of his old sleds...he definitely rips and was amazing to see as a grom especially from the water in your home break...I'm keen to see the footage on the extras, will try to chase it down...I reckon he would be riding very similar boards these days but beefed up a bit.....
