Lamination Situation

when laminating the top and bottom of a board how much resin should i aim to remove from the cloth. as much as possible or should i leave a bit extra in

as much as possible without leaving any dry spots

Michael,

To answer your question, you should take as much off as possible too a point.

Pour the resin on. Work it all over the board…let it satutate the cloth, not just wet it out there is a difference. Squeegee off excessive resin and wet out rail laps. Now laminate to glass onto foam, i.e., getting out the bubbles & bumps by forcing the glass onto the deck with the squeegee. This will also pull more resin off the board, the trick is to not over press or you’ll pull out so much resin that the cloth will become dry and tiny pin holes will happen. Here’s a visual for ya: Think of it as wringing out a sponge. If you soak a sponge it will become overloaded, if you wring it out completely it will start to suck air. Some where in the middle is where the sponge is happy. Nobody likes a pissed off sponge. The glass should appear crystal clear, but you should see and feel the weave with no puddles of resin anywhere. Hope that helps.
