last minute surf vacation--where to go?

Hi guys, haven’t posted in awhile, mainly because I moved from the happy surfing grounds of Hawaii to Memphis, TN. Yeah, not much surfing going on around here. Due to a change in my job situation, I suddenly have 2 weeks off and want to go surf somewhere. Would like to keep the trip under $3k, any suggestions? I’m tentatively leaning toward northern Peru, so if anybody has any recommendations for that area that would be good, too.

Thanks!

You can’t beat the cabins and camping on the San Onofre side of Camp Pendleton. It’s not exotic but it’s cheap and convenient for military.

I say go with your gut and take yourself and it to Peru.

Sorry I can’t offer advice about the place though, enjoy the two.

pr

what about Nicaragua?

there are some nice looking all-inclusive surf resorts there…

it’s always offshore.

three grand will go a long way in peru!!!

northern?

north and west swells?

is this prudent?

southern hemi surf is a little slak…

mebe a galapagos go might be budget wise?

and is equador a more exposed coastline?

no surf will still allow a bit of touring in sud amerique

a dream of surf on tour

is a fine dream…

bring home balsa when you go to quadoor

would be fine booty

mebe northern peruvia

could sport you some wood

the study factor is just daunting…

A good trip to ya .

does Chicama peel on a west?

is it even faster?

pictures always thrill my inner goofyfoot.

bury your travel money

or keep it in the hotel safe in a

hollow book.

Anywhere but home. Otherwise university. It’ll be the longest holiday you’ll ever have. Just be sure to pick one that’s close to a surf beach.

Stay in the N Hemi…

Puerto Rico can be reasonable, and you’re sure to get surf. Every time an arctic blast drops down the NE part of the states behind a big cold front, it brings strong NW winds to the great lakes and NE coast. For us here in New Jersey, that mean cold flatness. But those same winds, about 2 days later, bring overhead surf to PR, with tradewinds making perfect conditions for the West Coast around Rincon, which has plenty of reefs, points and beachbreaks to choose from. If you stay in the North Coast, you’ll get excellent, powerful surf, but the best conditions will be in the early morning, before the trades ramp up.

You can camp or stay in small, cheap hotels to save some bucks.

Flying to PR will really help keep you in budget. Or at least the flights from New York are relativly cheap. There will probably be surf there this weekend, here it is cold with steady northwest winds.

Just a little alternative thinking…

The dollar sucks against pretty much all foreign currency right now, so you may want to keep it domestic - your $3K will at least leave your wallet in a predictable manner. Nothing like going somewhere thinking you’re loaded and finding out that everything’s surprisingly expensive. Puts the beat-down on your vacation pretty quick. So I guess I’d vote for PR too, or maybe mainland Mex where the NP is basically indexed to the dolllar…

Or you may want to do a snowboard trip. Utah is pretty affordable, and you can get lodging/ski deals for less than a grand a week. Fly in & out on Southwest. Nice snow right now. And remember, they usually send Marines to hot places, not cold ones

PM sent

If you want to change to snowboarding, give Grand Targhee in Wyoming a try. It’s a great place with unreal conditions and very few crowds. Steep, deep and cold…
