Sorry about the picture quality, it was a bit too bright.
Late season project. 7’4" x 18 3/4" x 2 1/2". 1.9 lb. Marko blank bamboo veneer bagged with RR epoxy. 6 bot. 4 under/veneer/4 over deck. 3M auto pin tape.
Thanks for the compliments! Yes Mike this is a stringered blank. It’s easier for me to build them with the stringer but if I did them for myself and really wanted to tune the ride I’m pretty sure that I’d increase the shell strength and take out the stringer. I can’t seem to break my poly addiction.
Also no bamboo on the bottom. I was surprised how light it came out, lighter than a 6 bot. 6/6 deck glass only board.
Greg Loehr really opened the trick and tip vault on these boards.
Honolulu, pm if you want a price. It depends on what you want. This board is for a shop here on Kauai. Board would be a good travel board for a smaller rider looking for a gun.
I agree the bamboo should go further towards the rail edge. Stronger cleaner application of the material.
This was a project board that sat in my shop for close to a year gathering dust and dings from my rocker stick. The last piece of bamboo I had was only just that wide. In retrospect I should have split the bamboo down the middle and made panels. Bamboo closer to the rail edge and a scrap racing strip of bamboo in the middle. A 6/4 overlap of glass on the rail on eps is pretty minimal.
I hadn’t done a bagged board in over a year and this was a quick warm up for a 9’ SUP thats next. I can’t wait to see how little resin I’m going to need to do the sup. Those SUPs are monsters of resin use.
Thanks for the compliment Huie. Still really enjoying the Aussie foam with the UV resin!
I get cocky in the shaping bay sometimes and start for the camera to take close up pictures and then those images of your perfectly finished shapes pop into my head. I’ve been forcing myself to use the planer more and to be more efficient in my steps, especially with my personnal ones. Sometimes it goes like butter other times its like shoveling gravel.
