latest #1 eps from my garage

Working on a 7’6" semi-gun. Lots of great info from PlusOne and template ideas from resinhead and others.

#1 hotwired eps and glued-up a 3/16" redwood stringer.

#2 PLaned the glue from the stringer and templated outline.

#3 Roughed-out shape.

Bottom Lam & cutlap

Laminated the deck using the technique shown on PlusOne’s website for three layers of six oz. Wet-out the first two layers then roll-out the third and let the epoxy soak up into the weave.

Cut the lap, hotcoated the deck.

Routed the fin boxes (pro-box hawaii). You may notice the 3/16 layer of wood glued into the blank to strenghten the box.

I’ll post more as she goes. -matt

Nice job. I am about to start a 1lb longboard myself.

Thanks!

nice one

Really nice. I like the color blue.

those deck laps look like fun to tuck!

How did you leave the stringer showing on the blue bottom lam? Or is it paint on the foam…

It looks good, either way

Thanks to all who have commented,

Benny1,

thats water based acrylic paint airbrushed onto the sealed foam. -matt

Hi Vern! I like the blue colour as well. Would be interesting to see a close up photo of how the colour comes out when Your nice board is finish sanded.

What type of epoxy are You using? Looks nice and clear.

What type of waves and wave size (face height) did You design Your board for?

Thanks for the pics

Okay,

I got the boxes in, sanded and pinlined. Thanks to swaylocks advice on the Rich Harbour method of acrylic painted pinlines. That really works slick. Next on to sanding the pinline and applying the gloss coat. Hoping to finish before my trip to Baja this weekend.

When you speak of the acrylic painted pinlines…Are you just applying paint and then wiping off excess? I noticed this process in their video on the site. Seems pretty easy. I have never thought much of it until recently when my airbrush broke. Now I got a couple of boards to do and it sucks having to mask/tape off the whole deck when doing a 1/4" pinline around a cutlap and spraying it with a gun!

Just like the video.

Apply the paint straight from the tube and squeegee it flat, removing the excess. I like it better than resin pinlines and the colors are great. -matt

Sweet job Vern!

Coupla questions for you…

  1. what brand of paint did you use and did you get locally?

  2. How did you install the wood inserts for the fin boxes?

O.K one more…

  1. did you glue up sheets of Insulfoam from Lowes or buy a block of EPS?

Great work!

Thanks Marcus!

I got the Paint at Michaels craft store in Camarillo. There may be one in Ventura. It is water based acrylic paint in the poster paint area and comes in the 2oz and 4oz bottles. Lots of colors and alot more vibrant than the regular poster paint.

I installed the wood inserts by routing a hole about 1/2-3/4" larger than the pro-box about 3/4" deep. I then glued in the wood insert with the elmers p/u glue and another foam insert on top(Inserts-1.jpg). Finished sanded and sealed with fast-n-final. You can see the insert line on the bottom on the clear glass job I did on another board (inserts-2.jpg), but not on this one.

I hotwired the blank from a block of eps and glued up a redwood stringer.
