Laydown Paddleboard Build

After watching Chasing Mavericks about Jay Moriarty, my 9 year old son decides he wants a paddleboard.  Well I don’t have one so now I’ll need two boards.  To make it a little easier on the wallet, I decided to make them myself.  I’ve been looking on the internet for dimensions of a 14’ board but haven’t really found anything.  Does anybody have numbers to help me out or let me know where I could find some?  Any help with this adventure would be greatly appreciated.

search “stock paddleboard build” there is a great thread! good luck and have fun

I’m kind of debating getting a paddleboard for next summer here on the East Coast when it’s flat. Keep me in shape and out in the water most of the summer.

Here’s the thread warrior1515 mentioned:

I was hoping for more information about rocker.

  You might be overthinking this.

Some racing paddle boards have 10' of dead flat, slight rise in the tail, slightly more rise in the nose, displacement bow.

Wave riders have tons of tail rocker for turning, and some nose kick.

  Make something in the middle.

A few years back when my back was hurt, I built this 12’ paddleboard. I would have to do some measuring to give you some numbers. I do know that it is 21" wide and 5" thick. I researched these and found that the faster ones have a “Vee” throughout, nose to tail. They can be “Tippy” though. I shaped some flatness at the centre for stability. It is fast! And a good workout. Next time I will make it probably 14’ for more glide. I am 200 lbs.

It was made from a WNC Foam blank. Contact Mike Jean, he will hook you up.

Somewhere in my shaping room, I have the template with the measurements if you need. I also still have this board. I take it out when it gets flat.

Oh yeah, this board was handshaped from a 5" thick x 12’ billet EPS foam. I have never spent that much time with my Skil in my hands. I think it was worth it!
