Layout Square

Aloha, Can anyone tell me where I can buy a layout square ? Please , I am starting board # 3 and would like to try it to maybe help my poor shaping abilaty, Thanks … Don

Ok , I gotta admit I forgot about the archives .. There was a bunch of info there . Once I got off my lazy A-- and tried it .. Aloha

I use the one Home depot. Look for the 90 degree framer square, 24 x 18. Or go to an art supply place and get a plastic one. I think FoamEZ.com sells the fancy kind made for surfboards

FoamEZs got em here: http://www.foamez.com/store/productDetails.cfm?prodID=61&prodIDCat=66

the one from FoamEZ is great. Really makes things eassier to plot out.

Drew

Basically, the same measure on both sides, with zero in the center. You can easily find the same dimension on both sides. I make mine 2’ x1’, with the 1’ makes it easy to find the one foot mark in from the ends of the blank. Aloha…RH

I plan on buying a thin sheet of plexi from home depot and just marking off the measurements i need from a framing square with a sharpie or an awl

much cheaper than paying $15-20 for something from clark or other suppliers

$25. @ SurfSource in US, a little more @ shapers.com.au down under. The one @ foamEZ.com is alright also.

I’ve tried homemade ones, but after counting my time making it, it would’ve been cheaper to just buy one and be done with it.

Thanks… To all I am getting it from surfsource … And the small plane too… the one with two handgrips . to do the stringer where the rocker is on the deck at the nose end . ?? I forget what you call this tool ?? Thanks again for the info …

SpokeShave. I have two or three, and 5" heavy block planes also, but I use … I think it’s called a 3" hobby plane … more than anything else. Little lightweight looking thing. Works great.

Here’s one of 'em. Get a couple of these bad boys. They are Stanley brand from a building supply. I think they cost a whole $5 a pop.

Aloha. Yea, got that one allready Ozzie. Small block plane . The spokeshave will make part of the job easier . “I hope” Sorta depending on more tools helping make up for my lack of abilaty… Thanks , Don
