when making the leading fin marks…is the mark closest to the nose 4" away from the trailing mark? or does it vary with the shaper? i am not too sure about the leading marks. this sounds pretty confusing…
Teddy - The distance between the leading and trailing edges will be determined by the width of the base of your fins. Let’s say your trailing edge is 12" up from the tail and your base is 5" wide (just examples) - the mark closest to the tail will be 12" up and the forward mark will be 17" up. I think most of us are positioning the front mark about 1/4" to 3/8" closer to the stringer - toed in a bit. The distance from the rail varies - I think Herb Spitzer recommends 1" - 1 1/4" on the trailing edge? That’s in the ballpark. I’m positive that there is are lots of ideas if you search archives.
