I want to inlay a leaf into a board. Does anyone know if this can be done? I realise it might make it slightly hard to travel with the board but i am not so worried about that! Cheers Harry
My knowledge is limited, by my suggestion would be to sandwhich it between two sheets of rice paper, or at least lay rice paper over the top of it to protect the leave from the brush used for lamination and/or glassing (depending on when you do your decal stage). This is similar to how you’ll do decropage or collage type of stuff. Also press the leaf as best you can with a press or book to ensure it’s flatness. The one thing I can’t speak for is how the chemicals will react with the organic matter of the leaf. It’s a neat question though, one that could possibly make for some interesting inlays down the line if you get it to work, orchids, lotus petals, etc. Good stuff
There has been discussion about this in the past and the general consensus was that it is not a good idea. Anything oraganic will brown and or cause bonding issues with your lamination. With the quality of ink jet printers, their inks and paper, it seems like it would just be better to scan in your leaf and print a high resolution image out on some rice paper. You could make it look real and not have to worry about delam or the leaf turning brown. My two cents.
I’d toss the leaf in a book for a couple of months until it dries out… but it is going to lose that pretty green color… and it will still have THC… I mean, Chlorophyll, residue. I think the consensus was probably right, bad idea. Maybe you can find a fake one?
this is he occasion Your Salvador Dali waterbase pen set was intended for … get it out and make that scientific homage the world has been waiting for …I can see it now…damn You can even include dripping oily flowers glistening in the sunlight and not get busted by some Federali who needs a car payment count me in the concensus ambrose …on the creative bleachers cheering for a goal
leaves, coins, windows, rabbits feet, earwigs, luncheon meat, box juice. Is that a surfboard or a lunch box? Extra tomato on yours? Yes please.
i resined up a leaf to a cd case a year ago or so … it never discolored. I dont know what heppened to it now so i cant say for sure about the bonding of it. that would be the only problem. i would say put it on like a logo except for catalize the resin you put under it to lay it out. cause i dont think it would kick right under the leaf if you dont do this. i think it would work . maybe in a year or 2 might have a lil delam… but dunno. we glassed a sticker to a board and it worked fine. a few lil airbubbles but not much. Im sure that the leaf would go on betterthen the sticker for sure. you dont want the leaf brittle tho and you also dont want it too wet. soi would say leave itout over night and your good to go . Good luck
