Hey guys, I have a E.Duck 7’7" board and I need help figuring out how to attach my leash to it. It has no leash cup but has a glassed in fin with a hole in it. Do I just attach the leash to the fin? Wouldn’t the thick Velcro part of the leash create allot of water resistance? Is this how its done?
yeah i’ve seen that before on a old singlefin… you attach to a hole in the base of the fin… i’m sure it creates drag… like the other guy said, better to install a cup.
I’m sure there have been thread on leash loops - take a look. I put mine on the tip of the tail, lamed’ top and bottom, works great. (Ps. Thanks again for the carbon tow Keith!)
Seen plenty of holes in fins for leash attachments but I do a fair amount of work with older boards even owned a couple in the past, it was a better option than a bungie and a suction cup.
the hole through the fin is very old school, like pre glass loop old skool. How old is this board? If its an old board in fair condition then this is an original feature: DON’T ADD A NEW LEASH ATTACHMENT.
If the board is mor modern then go nuts. there are many ways to add an leach cup, the easiest would be a spick on one, but you could drill a hole and sinck an insert just like a fin plug, make a glass loop or if its a single fin dill a hole through the deck and out the fin slot the tape it up fill with resin and the drill another smaller hole though the centre (see that alot with boards from oz)
Thanks for the help and ideas guys. I think ill keep it retro and figure out a way to use my leash with it. Here’s a pic of it before its restoration and after (first time working on a surfboard but it came out OK i think).
Looks like it might deserve some restoration luv… would be an opportunity to have a leashloop put on. They can be small and unobtrusive and wouldn’t detract too much from the originality of the board imho, failing that surf empty point breaks and go leashless
I’d second that, a glass loop would be in keeping with the board and could always be ground off at a later date. Don’t sink a plug. Nice looking board, a little work and that would look great. particualy like the fin.
A leash cup, made of a PVC pipe end cap, would be contemporary with the age of the board. You could also do a ‘‘through the box’’ set-up. I’ve done them on finished boards before, and it is not difficult at all.
EDIT: Oops, forgot, you have a glass-on fin. So, leash cup it is.
