Summer surf here now, lots of shoulder to knee high wavelets, so I’m feeling the need for speed but also feeling the drag from the leggie.
Is it real or am I imagining it ?

…the real drag is when you are paddling; more with big thicker ones. And of course you feel it; let the leash in the parking, etc and you see how the paddling power improves.
Definitely notice the drag. I almost never wear a leash on my longboards, but when it is big, and/or there is danger to hapless tourists in the inside I will put it on, and can feel it paddling, and riding, and I weigh 220 Lbs.
More annoying to me is when it decides to magically thread itself between each and every toe on my front foot.
I had a good long swim yesterday after spinning way too late on a larger set wave, and thank you whomever it was that saved my board from the rocks, then went back and moved it even higher up the beach as I swam in.
minimal drag but sometimes noticeable
in smaller waves, it is so nice not to have it
