Before Christmas, I posted a thread asking about bottom shapes for a Lis fish for a friend who was shaping a fish using the Lis template that is in the surfboard construction manual which was posted a while back.
Again thanks to all who posted with advice. Over Christmas I made a quad fish for Kay, my partner, based on that same template.
The board is 5’7" X 20 3/4" X 2 3/4".
I would like to thank everybody who has posted with info about quads. Particularly on Oldys “Journey of a quad” thread. Without your help I would have been still serching for info. I feel like I have cheated a bit. Do a search of the archives and bingo all the info one needs to set up the fins right there infront of you. But I guess, if you give a little you get a little.
Hi Guys, Kay here. I surfed it for the first time today in fairly ordinary surf. It paddles really well, there doesn’t seem to be a problem with the fins. It surfs well, loose without being twitchy and it looks soo pretty. David will post some photos soon. Nathan look forward to catching up and going for a surf. Kay partner of Platty.
I took some photos of Kay this morning. The surf was pretty sad. High tide, NE wind swell. Not the best conditions to try a new board in. Patience is not one of Kays best virtues. “I want to surf it and I want to surf it now”. So here are the best of todays photos.platty.
Hey Coastie. Thanks. I gave Phil the keels I made for Kays board. Now that it is a quad we don’t need them. He asked if I would glass it for him. So you will probably see him soon, as he is keen to finish shaping it and get it over to me. Apprently you are on your way over now.platty.
We did a final once over on the shape at Coasties last night before bringing it over - those keels look unreal on the board, looking forward to seeing it all glassed up.
Love the work you did on Kay’s board. Those pin lines really finish it off, especially the way they flow along the lap lines on the tail. (Worthy of a close up IMHO).
