Local tow crews making the most of their gear...

A little sad…

Were there paddle surfers out?

Towing in on a 4’ wave.

Really?

Aloha crew,… I think a little explanation is needed,…I believe the crew was “stepping off”,…they were at a beach break here in DelMarVa that breaks in less than a foot of water, about 30 feet from the shore. (If you can paddle in to them and live then you’re the man)— A jump and go method of getting into the wave before you’re dumped into the sand---- these guys surf BIG Hawai’ian surf and are just having fun.

Check out Colin Herlihy from Delaware and Raven from VB,  on the web with WildLyfe and the Backwoods Crew before you make uneducated statements.

BARRY YOUR WORK IS THE BOMB!!!

Aloha, Randy

I think the “local crew” in Tayor’s pic is local to the Central Coast of Oregon.  Not many "step off " beach breaks up here.  But plenty of beach breaks with no channels, sharky great white inlets, rivers and more no channel beach breaks.  Looks small and fairly clean in the pic.  My guess is they were warmin’ up for Nelscott Reef.  Maybe some of you have heard of it.  Lowel

So, who knows for sure where this pic was taken?

I don’t think there were paddle surfers out.  These guys were towing and/or stepping.

It’s good beach break, when it’s good.  Otherwise, close outs.  Not much channel, but long period swell this day.

I’m offending myself with my high horse shit, “Sheeple…”  Like that peak was the only place to tow on miles of open beach???

My guess is - knowing some these guys a bit - they do it 'cuz they can.  They like to be toghether to get the pics, talk the talk, etc…

The contest is paddle on the reef, so I don’t think this has much to do with that.

I’m just glad the photo is there…  I couldn’t see it on the preview tries and left in disgust…  Stoked now - I’ll put up pics of my latest “Frankin-board” project one of thes days…

Is it the spot best known as a favorite of local spongers?

your friendly neighborhood moderator at work behind the scenes…

Taylor’s right.  These guys up here do it because they can.  They hang together and they run together.  They  have fun and they are nice enough guys who generally don’t flock it up for others.  There is lots of worthless beach break in Oregon.  Most without a channel.  Outside bars, inside bars etc.  Sometimes outstanding(rarely) but most times mediocre.  There are no friggin’ crowds in Oregon so any bitch about a few guys on skis is PMS.   I’d be out there with ‘em if I wasn’t Mr’ six foot and under and old enough to draw Sociaal Security.  And------ If I was out there with 'em I wouldn’t give a $#!t what anybody on Sway’s thought about it.  Lowel

Sell my house in So Cal. Take the money and run to TaylorO’s backyard. Buy a 6mil wet suit and a ski…I could do that…sure looks funny towing into small stuff with headgear…I could do that too…

Wife can’t handle the cold…guess I’m stuck paddling into 4 footers in San Diego…Ray

I spent a 1/2 hour paddling out today, caught one wave and then another 1/2 hour paddle out. Beach break Fun!! Depends on how you want to workout, like mountain biking verses motocross. Paddling has a lot less noise, gear, prep time, maintenance, and I am a cheap bastard.

Aloha crew,…Delaware “stepping off” you decide.

Aloha, Randy

Nice video but the chances of the Deleware crew being the guys in the photo at the beginning of this thread are slim.  Note the rider is wearing a helmet…

The photog’s photobucket page has just that one image, so there’s no way to get a clue from that source. I was thinking that if he had other pics in his album it might shed more light on his locale.

Google image search is your friend. By simply using “McInnis surf” as the search term I came to the following conclusion.

The photog is very likely Mark McInnis, from the PNW.

I think this dispels any idea that the above pic is from the EC.

All I needed to see was the helmet on the surfer’s head to know it wasn’t Deleware.  From Montauk down to Florida there isn’t a break where you’d need a helmet to protect your mellon.

North of Montauk? Different story.

Plus, there’s various reasons for wearing a helmet. I know a couple of people who’ve had surgery that required wearing a helmet during their post op stage so they could surf safely. In those cases, even a mild rap on the head from your own board can be hazardous.

new brain bucket

Aloha, Randy

I got dropped in on a few weeks ago end of the board hit me in the side if the head lots of blood and but of concussion. Feeling like pretty much anywhere other people are could be a good place to wear a helmet.
