I’ve only used lam paper,(similar to rice paper), for my board logos. It always comes out a little transparent when applied over the stringer. Is there another material or decal-type mylar that can be safely used under the glass? There must be something out there, since I’ve seen solid looking logos on Bruce Jones and Stewart boards. Thanks for any of your knowledge.
Grant…If you want to hide the visibility of the stringer under your decal, you need opaque white under your image. I usually silkscreen my decals on base white…(old school)…so the opaque background is already there. With the new scanners and rice paper, I’m sure there’s an efficient and easy way to accomplish this. I want to start using the scanners, myself, and you’ve brought up a good tech question. I am sure “da boys” will be firing in the best answers, momentarily.
i’ll be the first to admit that my logos do not look as professional as one from a silk-screener, i use rice paper and an hp inkjet. i wanted the opaque white backgroung look last summer, so i thinned some liquitex?? acrylic white, rolled a coat of it on the rice paper with a 3" sponge roller, let it dry, and rolled on a second coat and dried it. before i put it through the hp for the logo image (i always tape the rice paper to a piece of regular paper), i ran a medium warm iron over the back of the rice paper to get it flat as possible. came out fine, and didn’t see the stringer or the tint from the layer of glass below it. and the niether the black or colored printer inks ran on the opaque white. maybe this will be acceptable for you or others. good luck
Painting the material with white first sounds like a pretty good idea. I’d guess any water based white will do. Thanks.>>> i’ll be the first to admit that my logos do not look as professional as > one from a silk-screener, i use rice paper and an hp inkjet. i wanted the > opaque white backgroung look last summer, so i thinned some liquitex?? > acrylic white, rolled a coat of it on the rice paper with a 3" sponge > roller, let it dry, and rolled on a second coat and dried it. before i put > it through the hp for the logo image (i always tape the rice paper to a > piece of regular paper), i ran a medium warm iron over the back of the > rice paper to get it flat as possible. came out fine, and didn’t see the > stringer or the tint from the layer of glass below it. and the niether the > black or colored printer inks ran on the opaque white. maybe this will be > acceptable for you or others. good luck

Thanks for any of your > knowledge. Geez Grant. I’ve used zerox paper, Rice paper, Illegal substances, Cigartte papers…etc. If you don’t want a shadow …trim off all of the extra paper. There are different kinds of rice paper and the really super thin stuff doesn’t leave a shadow but sometimes it won’t lay real flat either. Zerox logos are realy bad. Really Really bad. DOn’t use old paper or old logo’s. They yellow and you will Always see the shadow. You gots ta keep em in a place away from the sun…
