Has anyone had trouble with getting their lokbox fins to fit properly in the box. I have the system on a rainbow quan. I’ve tried several different fin sets and none fit flush with the bottom of the board. There seems to be a 1/8 to 3/16 inch gap between the fin base and the board. I’ve tried lubricating the fin base and have tightened the screws down as tightly as seems possible. No dice. The board still performs OK but the gap bugs me. Do I need to bust out the sandpaper on the fin bases? One set is the standard canard quad that came with the board and the other is the turbo quad set from Rainbow Fin Co. Seems like 200 bucks worth of fins ought to fit flush. Do I just need more elbow grease? Any thoughts?
They can probably be tightened more. As you press the fins in rock them forward and back with downward pressure. Then tighten the screws some more. Each time they will go further in, and the srew will turn a bit more. You’ll hear them creaking their way in. You need to press firmly. You won’t strip the screw so don’t be afraid, and make sure you use an appropriate sized screwdriver that fits the slot in the screw tightly. If you still can’t get them down just send me an e-mail at lokbox@sbcglobal.net
I always coat fins & fin screws etc. with vaseline before installing…
Helps everything slide into place. Also keeps salt from building up & jamming things, keeps “stainless” steel from rusting, keeps aluminum & steel from getting busy together, etc. If those fins happen to be just right and get left in place for many months (who (besides Chip) hasn’t done that?) you might have a heck of a time getting everything back apart. That’s when you’d be really glad if you used a little lube now. Not much besides vaseline is thick enough to hold up that long…
Hey,
I had the same problem. It took a very long time, and I finally got them in as much as I could, but there was still a tiny 1/16" gap.
So I just sanded them down a little bit and they fit flush now.
