LokBox in North County San Diego (need help sharing the Stoke)

I fix boards for friends and their friends. I fix boards for people I meet at the beach. I fix a few boards here and there…

Here’s the story:

A guy brings me a longboard that needs some repairs. Super nice guy about 50 who’s getting back into surfing after about 25 years. I fix up the board. It’s a Jim Phillips / Dobson model. The center fin is a Dobson fin. The side fins are missing but it has old school LokBox side boxes. The guy asks me about side fins and I tell him how happy my friend is after I installed side fins on his long board. We talk for a while and I tell the guy to go to a surf shop and get some Lok Box fins.

How hard can it be to get LokBox fins in North county? Big mistake on my part…

I find out two weeks later that a Surf shop sold him a smaller center fin and some sort of adapter for their fins. The shop told this guy that he would have to drive to La Jolla to get LoxBox fins…I don’t know what shop he was dealing with but I do know that this guy lives in Lucadia.

I should have done a better job sharing the Stoke. I have Swaylock’s contacts ,I can e-mail JJR ,I’ve met the folks at Moonlight they are less than 2 miles from my house.

I want to make a list of what shops in North County sell Loxbox or Rainbow fins so this will not happen agian.

thanks

Ray

Hi Stingray. He may have gone to Leucadia surfshop which is probably one of the few shops in north county that doesn’t carry them.

Here’s a quick list -

Mitch’s (Solana)

Both Surfrides (solana and oceanside)

Encinitas surfboards

Hansens (encinitas)

Real surfshop (oceanside)

101 sports (leucadia)

Moonlight glassing (san marcos)

A quick google search for Lokbox shows our site in number one spot on the first page which would have put him directly in contact with me and I could have sent him in the right direction. However, a google search for Lo(x)box just comes up with a bunch of message board conversations etc… by people also spelling the name wrong with two X’s instead of one K and one X . In your post you spelled it both ways. BTW I also have a few of the older styled boxes kicking around if you ever need one. The fins are universal and fit both the old and newer boxes. Thanks Jim

Hehe, Mr Lokbox has also been known to frequent the 7-11 in Leucadia, maybe you can catch him in person…

Best (cheap) coffee in town lol and you don’t have to wait in the hour foo foo line at the pannakin. Although I did see Farrah Fawcett in that line a few months back…

Thank you ,

Sorry I spelled your name wrong.

I saw Elvis in that 7-11 just the other day!

Ray

I was at that 7-11 yesterday! LOL Larry

Was it the young Elvis, or the old Elvis?

Hey Jim

Thanks for the PM. Thanks for the phone numbers. Thanks for list of shops. All those shops on coast highway so close together and my friend goes to the one that does not carry LokBox. Go figure.

Ray

I try to get into Pannakin every time I’m out there but I can’t. Dig the vibe but not the coffee.

I always find myself going to the “evil domain of St@rbucks” in Carlsbad every time instead.

Nice story by the way.
