Gang- I recently purchased a fish with this fin system. Since the these fins can be moved forward and back (together or apart) and there are four of them, I’m having a hard time figuring out the effects of the different changes and there are a lot of possibilities. Does anyone have any advice? I guess what I mean is basics on what will make the board more drivey versus more turny? Cheers!
well the only way to really find out what works for you is to surf and make adjustment to what feels right. the more you surf the better you get to know were to set your fins. it changes for just about everybody.
What he said…but generally the closer the cluster is together the looser it will feel(less drive) and the further you spread them the stiffer it will feel(more drive)…riding it and then adjusting is the best bet…have fun…
I have a pavel quad fish. During the last good swell we had a made a point of experimenting with placement. Day 1 a set the entire cluster as far back as possible. Very tight but fast/drivey–more like a thruster. Next day, similar waves with the cluster all the way forward. Shockingly different! Much, much looser and more fishy feeling. Generally, I ride it with all four fins in the center of the box and that feels like a nice compromise. I haven’t tried any other variations, such as spreading the cluster out or pushing it together.
oooooh … i wonder if anybody has adjusted the cluster
non-symmetrically for a certain wave or rider?
I have the same setup but I’ts more of an egg.
Wouldn’t going all the way foreward be more drivey than going all the way back? Would spreading tham apart be the most drivey?
