Hi, I have a modern 9’6" longboard, but limited time to use it. So, someone save me some time and effort please… What’s the difference between riding it with one decent size fin, and using two small FCS side fins with a smaller central fin? Thanks “Phil”
Phil, My experience is that the three fin set up will grab more than the single fin - Good for steeper, faster waves. You may find also find it better for carving turns rather than pivoting turns. People will tell you that single fin set up is better for noseriding. I think this is true. Hope that helps a little. S>>> Hi, I have a modern 9’6" longboard, but limited time to use it. Phil: I used to be a real die hard single fin longboarder. “One God, One Fin” kind of thing going. I think I just didn’t take the time to really explore all of the possibilities. I agree with Mike, large single=better for noseriding, move it up in the box shorten the turning radius, back to draw out the turns. The 2+1 setup really made sense once I took the time to try it though. I found my boards really accelerated out of turns like a well behaved thruster. I like the 3-fin setup in sloppy, windblown surf and the single in long lined up surf more suited for noseriding. Hope that helps.
