Last I heard SS was mellowin’ out on Kauai. I know he doesn’t make many boards but, he made a lot of mine back in the day. Does anyone know if he has any kind of operation and contact info???
It would make my year for the info!
Peace,
Chongo

Howzit surfnspy, Shawn is still on Kauai, but have no idea how to get in touch.Aloha,Kokua
Thank’s for the lead… I’m going to keep diggin’!
I had one of his boards that he shaped for Russell surfboards and then another one that he shaped on his own label. Great shaper and extremely creative individual. He realized early on that there was not much money in shaping and pursued other entrepreneurial paths. I remember ordering boards from him after seeing John Gothard, Allan Lopez, and Rick Adams rip 54th street on his boards way back in late 70’s or early 80’s. I know Jeff Timpone another Russell shaper has been shaping on Maui, I think, for many years. Bruce Jones used to shape some Russells also.
I think hes in Monticeto in Santa Barbara when not on Kauai.
@ elewis … Don’t forget Smerk
@ Kokua … thank’s again for your input.
I tried to contact Jeff Timpone for a board and I never got anywhere with him. Bummer cuz I really wanted one.
I saw him in FootLocker in South Coast Plaza about 16 years ago getting ideas for his clothing thing… I heard he made $$$… No wonder he’s splits his time between Kauai and well, Kauai… Ha! No offence SB folk. Lived there, surfed that.
Ha, I did forget about him. On the rare occasion I get down to Oceanside, I still see Smerk at the harbor killing it. Smerk (aka Mark Manigan, spelling?, from Anaheim I think) surfed as well as anyone in the world in the early eighties and was completely unknown outside Newport. I can remember every summer when all the world tours pros would come and surf 54th st. They would watch Smerk in disbelief. I know that he lived on the North Shore for a few years and had a reputation as a great barrel rider who was completely under the radar.
Quite a guy, Smerk (Mangan)! He was from Irvine and I have heard that he does indeed live in O’side and is a carpenter? and still kills every sesh!
I had a couple of his old Stussys and an R. Sleigh. Wish I still had’em.
Peace!
