looking for some info on this board *pic links*

aloha all; Years ago I traded a climbing harness for a surfboard and was wonderring if anyone here could give me some info on it. It’s a 6’6" Santos board. I seem to remember Mike Santos being a big name in the past but can’t seem to find anything other than links to Todos Santos Surf Shop in Mexico. I’ve taken it out once and since I’m still a complete novice with no budget I’m hoping either a: i’ve got something worth trading for a bigger funsize/beginner’s board (i’m 6’, 215lbs) or b: it’s something worth holding on to for history’s sake. I doubt it’d be valuable since it’s got some discoloration and what looks like a fairly hacked middle fin repair job. However, I did take it out once in Santa Cruz and caught my first wave on it after paddling around and getting familiar with the board and balancing and keeping out of the locals’ way. Unfortunately I was too exhilarated to actually try to stand up when i caught it but I’ve been hooked since and would really like to get serious about surfing since I’ve waited way too long. Any info about the condition of it or references about Santos boards would be greatly appreciated. http://www.geocities.com/riddmkidd/surfboard/

This board was made by Mike Stavros in San Pedro, CA - He has a shop on Pacific Street here in San Pedro. The shop is called San Pedro Surf and Sport.

Your board looks like it might be worth around 150.00 - 175.00 trade in value on a new board if you deal with a shop that does that. Reselling it yourself on E-Bay or Craigslist.com might get you more but you’ll be dealing with listing, shipping, possible dead beats, etc. For someone your size and weight, I’d recommend something much bigger and wider - In my opinion, at 6’ 215 lbs, you probably couldn’t go too big, too wide or too thick with a beginning board. I know Surftech is not a popular brand around here but take a look at the Mickey Munoz “Glide”, “Superglide” or “Ultraglide” models to see what I’m talking about. If you can, try renting something like one of those just once… http://www.surftech.com/long.html?label=20&PHPSESSID=8cd28f59ecd03508c6d8e3152b982dae

Cool, thanks for the responses! Interesting story is this board washed up on Waikiki beach and my friend looked down and saw it. and then wondered where the surfer was since there was no one around. So he brought it back with him and traded some climbing gear for it. Since it was a gift from the sea i’d rather hold on to it than trade it in but maybe it’ll help me find the right board to start on. It’s nice to learn where it’s from and that it’s a cali. board too…
