only I'd need one 8.5 - 10.5" long. It's a Bahne twin fin box that I believe is 1/2" deep. Trying with no luck to find a 1/2" deep center fin box for a board with thinner tail. Anybody know where I can get one on the mainland?

You’re obviously really good with woodworking tools, have you thought about making one? Once, in a pinch, I made a full sized Bahne style fin box out of some left over polycarbonate stuff a friend gave me. I think solid surface counter top material would work nicely as well.
Not a whole lot to it really. Rip a piece length wise then cut your fin tab slot in it, cut it in two to make your sides, then glue a thin piece on bottom and cap the ends.

Surfthis - Thanks, and I like your thinking - all DIY. I've been thinking about doing something similar for a while from corian scraps from a fabricator down the street. However, this one is a quick fix I need in order to fit a custom fin into. Darn things are impossible to find online.
Thanks Kirk for the info. I appreciate your help and will give them a call.
What if you grind off the bottom of the box, then add an extra layer of glass under it when you install it. You might be able to get an 1/8" or more off the bottom, and then don’t install it all the way to the normal spot, gives you a little to cut off the top as well.
You might have to shorten the bolt that holds the fin in.
Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like a wild goose chase as the result of a misunderstanding - no biggie. I knew something was up when I started feeling like the bat boy sent on a mission to find a bat stretcher. . .
For reference, though, that standard single fin box can be ground or cut down significantly (as noted above) to be used in thinner tailed boards.
Howzit camplus, Just call Bahne and buy one from them, it's that or find one at an online materials retailer and buy it. They are not that hard to find and I bet Foamez carries them, I know Fjberglass Hawaii has them. Aloha,Kokua
Mike, i’m pretty sure I have one of those somewhere in the mess of my old shop. Used (ripped out of an old board) but re-usable. I’ll take a look later in the day and tell you. if so, do you want me to send it? PM me your adress.
