I’m going to california over christmas break to visit my family and my uncle said that I can have his old board which is at my grandparents house. My dillema is that I’m a college student and dont have the money to buy a boardbag. So, I was wondering if someone would be willing to let me borrow one of their travel bags that is around 8’6" long. I will pay for the shipping of the bag to and from my house and then some for wear and tear on the bag. If one of yall could let me borrow a bag it would be greatly appreciated. If you can, PM me or email me, cksurfsnow@verizon.net
Howzit nova, For what it would cost you to ship a bag you could probably buy one. I have several new ones that my old FCS rep gave me for free and one of them is a double LB bag.Unfortunatly I am on Kauai. Aloha, Kokua
I’m not close enough to help but would have you consider a couple of things…since you say money’s an issue…
Do a search at the top of the page here for “packing for air travel” and you’ll see there’s more to it than sliding a board in a bag and taking off - padding and protection issues/expenses if you don’t have stuff to do it with.
Also, check with the airline and see what they will be charging you each way for the board. Can run well over $100 each way. Depending on how long you’ll be there and how much time you can devote to surfing - if there’s waves - you might be better off renting/borrowing a board.
you could also consider shipping the board via ups/fedex/greyhound/mail/other...just make sure you get a good strong box and pack that thing really well...fragile stickers dont guarantee anything
I would think this would be the best option and cheaper than what the airline would charge you these days. Get a box from a surfshop and ship before you fly back.
Howzit nova, I would sell you the bag but I know that just having it shipped from Oahu to Kauai was around $40 and when you consider that, it would be cheaper to buy one where you live plus they are not the easiest thing to package up. Even if I sold it to you for 1/2 the price the shipping would make it more than buying one where you live. Aloha,Kokua
pete- the board is in california and i want to bring it home with me. but thanks for the info, i’ll be sure to do that search so i dont mess up the board since its a 70’s board.
robo and oceanrider- thanks for the info, im looking up the shipping prices right now!
kokua- thanks anyways! it definitely would be cheaper to check out the surfshops near me, so i’ll see if they’ve got any used bags…
