Looking to buy Wooden Keel Fins

I am looking to purchase some wooden keel fins for a 6’0 traditional twin fin fish. I have been using the futures twin fins but am looking for more hold.

I know that they are supposed to be easy to make. However, since I have never seen one in real life let alone checked out the foils I think I had better buy my first set. Does anyone out there know where to buy a set?

are you looking for glass-ons?

Mitch’s in La Jolla has Larry Gephart keels (8x5’s I believe), kinda pricey, but beautifully made.

I don’t have the # here, I have it at work and will post it Monday if you want it

I got some 8 X 5’s from Mitch’s in Solana Beach. I think I payed $40 for 'em and not sure if they’re Gephardt’s or not. They are sweet fins and are tucked away for a special project!

Do have any rake to them or are they the flat backed ones? Also are they double or single foiled? Thanks for the number.

ICARUS,

I make keel's in hoop pine ply with a double foil,

at a cost of $35.00aus + frt can have them to you in one week as i carry stock, currently supply Gordon&Smith boards

for export to japan.

                Regards Rod.

ICARUS,

Make your own for about 2 dollars and the same good feeling you get from shaping and glassing your own board. You have other fins to compare. Just foil it to look like a surfboard fin and it will work. Mike

if you’re looking for glass-ons, I am willing to make you a set out of high quality marine ply, & mail them to you. Double or single sided, 9x5 or whatever.

The price?

Make a donation to Swaylocks. In whatever amount seems fair to you. Let’s keep this place alive, folks, bandwidth costs money.

ICARUS… I was looking at making a set for a board I was going to shape in a few. If you want we can hook up share some notes and make a couple of sets. There is a wealth of info in the archives on this subject.

Sounds great. Give me a shout on the cell or email me as I have lots of time over the next few weeks.

How thick should the foil of tradition ply wood skegs be?

Also where should the max foil thickness be?

For your short board fin should probably be about 1/2" thick and max. thickness should be about 1/3 back of leading edge.
