Low coast, high function racks...

Sorry to be such a egoed out kook, but after all the time to do these pics, I thought I’d try a clearer subject line…

Not that I’m against higher quality things, but I’m sure there are others like myself who may like ideas for functional things at minimal cost.

Ok - I'm gonna post my 23 year old, and still daily users, Cheap Ass Master, Ha! racks.

I got the 5 gal buckets for free.  Bought the pvc, screwed in, filled buckets w/rocks @ 2/3 way - Till it felt heavy enough - covered rocks w/plaster (Free from work, and I didn't want the rocks to fall out when I was moving the buckets around.) left enough room for trash... Ha!

Double baged for ding repair.

Shaping/sanding/ding repair/etc. "heads."

Extension(s) with glassing head in my hand.

Extension w/blank glue up head - Getting ready to glue up next blank.

Second life for old blown out overalls

That's that - the racks are stable enough for my purposes.  The best thing to me, besides the interchangable heads, is being able to move them around... Some times just a good kick, gets it where I want it...

TaylorO

Taylor, you're on a roll with the thread titles, aren't you?

Here is my low cost solution.  These are made out of 4 MDF shelves you can buy at Home Depot.  Total cost less than $20.  Incredibly rigid and can be disassembled in seconds by pulling the 4 wedges that hold the cross braces.  The heavy weight of the MDF makes them very stable for shaping.  I also made attachments for glassing that are not pictured.

Are those cardboard box walls I see?

Very Haitian. Nicely done.

Taylor,

Are those pipes filled with anything…???..Soupy concrete…???..

Hahahahahahaaha!!!

Gee Mike - Just when I think some has some nice feed back…   Ha!  Thanks for a good laugh first thing in the morning… now, to see…  hahahah ahahhha  That is so perfect…

Jay - Thanks for keep the laugh fest going…

Well, the heavy duty double walled corrugated paper board was once my “hot box,” but when I wanted to work in the winter, the rest of the shed was cold, so I gave myself a Christmas present of the insulation, and since I had the box right there, I stapled it up, and, realized it is a good way to keep from ripping the insulation, so I’ve thrown up more, at the ends of the shed, where board tips got close.

Paul - I didn’t put anything in the pipe.  But, as I think I mentioned, I put rocks in the buckets, and covered 'em w/plaster - for weight - the pipe has been fine for years.

Hey Mako - For some reason I can’t see your pics???  Classic.

I had done a couple of hours of mind-numbing CAD work last night when I flipped over to sways, and saw your ''new'' thread title. I got a good laugh, glad my response got you one.

I like the interchangable heads. When I was backyard/garage as a kid, I did everything on one set of racks. Having a set of glassing "T''s would have been lovely.

Thanks Mike - I realized C.A.M. racks may not have made much sense, and I may be glad I am not immediately known as a Cheap Ass Master.

Although, the time I spelled it out, in huge black letters, on the ass of my red customized snowboarding pants, I got some good laughs… And I’m not sure I was thinking about the double entendre… Ha!

For my purposes, and perhaps those of many a “hobbiest,” the fact I can move then around it the best thing.  I made a skim board on them, a 10 1/2 foot gun, take 'em out in the sun, etc…

Maybe I should entitle my next thread “Free Beer/Sex/fill in you favorite…”
