Howzit sidestreet, I hear you, my favorite spot was 3’s, especially when it got big. Have some great memories of 10 foot waves there.Aloha,Kokua

Ive seen pics of there when its good, it looks pretty sweet. Ive been out there on an alright day and it was pretty good, just not used to the break.

Wow, great stuff…

I’m too old to travel anymore, and too poor, so I won’t bring my Army to invade.

We only sailed inside the break, on trade winds offshore, so never saw it on Konas, and don’t know which direction it’d blow anyways.

Girlfriend and I did a photo shoot for Oneills in the airport holding pond in like '85. She’d model all those lycra and neo shorty girl stuff, while I rigged her sails, prepped her boards, and make sure EQ was OK. They had a clothes person, two photogs, and a director there as well. Made it on some windsurf mags in the old daze, but never really hit it for some reason. I think more pics were at the Oneill shop in 41st Ave than ever made it to the magazines. She was Oneill’s size 10 fit model from '86 to '93.

I wish an Army would invade. I named the outside break “lonelys”. 20-30 minute paddles to an outside break keeps everyone away. My former nextdoor neighbors paddled out there once on a big day and another resident on the beach called fire rescue and they went out to rescue them only to be informed they were having fun and didn’t need rescuing.

I have probably seen your girlfriend on those covers, i used to get all those windsurfing publications in the early years.

Were you friends with kimo fernie ever??

Heard of him, but no, never met him that I know of.

Surfed a bunch on the NorthShore in the '70’s, got to be pretty close with TomStone, then saw him again 10 years later when we were windsurfers. Another 10 years, he’s competing in CorporateGames, and I loan him my slalom and course racing gear, including a lightwind D-2 Crit I had lying around.

Knew a fireman slalom sailor outta Kailua, Kenny, and the 'yards crew of course.

Wow! Big Ben still ripping. I “took off behind him” at Lani’s one time back in the mid 80’s. He got to the bottom and lays into this bottom turn just as I’m bottom turning and just freakin’ fire hoses me with his spray. Hit me in the back of the head so hard I had to straighten off. I just had to laugh.

Ala Mo, man that place is the schit. Tried surfing it way crowded, learned this, non-aggro haole boys don’t get too many (any) waves on a crowded south swell afternoon. One morning me and a buddy paddled out in the dark, pole sets, super fun. no one out. Got this one wave- came off the bottom, did the cool guy stall maneuver, got barrelled looking out at Magic Island in the dark. Only problem, board forgot to keep moving, barrel collapsed, Allen gets nose to gut, spends week in Queen’s Medical. I was the uncompensated Nose Guard Hawaii North Shore rep for a while after that.

Oct.75,

all the boys were out, even Lopez.

…lost my stick in a pile-up at the main inside bowl…had to walk in all the way to the wall over low-tide toe-cutters…OWWW…OUCH!!!Herb

…I am the 4th horseman…

Anyway where CMP goes they have some of the biggest tigers in the world… pretty good crowd control in my opinion especially half a mile out to sea.

No Joke, in 1983 we pulled a 14’ tiger out of a fishing net we had laid right off of Empty Lots. Thats just right up the beach from CMP. The other south shore, some good times.

Well for sure, Dat!

Kewalo Basin itself is home to at least a couple attacks a year. That whole S Shore down near Pearl City is the shark attack capital of Oahu.

Just HawaiiTouristB, and Chamber, don’t like to advertise it.

my girlfriend is getting here phd in marine bio from UH… we are always helping out on other peoples projects, one of the projects is tagging tigers on the south shore. you wouldn’t believe the ones caught right of waikiki, pertty cool…

my neighbors caught this I think in1991 at “lonelys”

There actually hasn’t been a documented shark attack off Waikiki for almost 45 years. Even then it was some dork chumming from a row boat…
