“Guest room”? OK. I was going to tell you to clean your room ;-).
Not every board has a serial number. In some cases, they are really hard to find or don’t exist, at all. The most common spots to see one are on the stringer, between double stringers, near the label, or down on the tail, deck side. Do not stress if you cannot find one. Like I said, some have none at all.
I just might have an answer to the "ass slip model" on the fin. Back in the day there was a guy surfing at Seaside Reef. Seems he got pitched on Take off and free-fell on to his upside down board landing right on his fin. you guessed it. The fin penetrated his Anus. Just thinking about that hurts. OK stop laughing! he guy nearly died from loss of Blood.
I'm sure that someone working up there on the hill had a sick sense of humor and thought "ass slip model" would be a good way to commemorate the incident. The wording looks like it was cut from some old logos.
I finally caught Mully at his retail store today and showed him the pictures. I was slightly wrong about the timeline, he was in California until 73 and that board was likely done 72-73. The outline and rail are consistent with that period. The fin is the ''glass slipper'' fin, which he says is 9'' and way too big for that board. No idea how the cut-up decal work appeared on it. (I was hoping for a factory prank story) The glue lines in the blank made him think it may have come from Popoff Foam, he said they got a batch of foam done like that. Definitely a DT shape, definitely a Donnie Mulhern glass job, and definitely Gary Brummert pinline.
His son just posted the shop email in another thread ("MTB SURFBOARDS"), ping him if you want to talk about selling.
I always have a great time talking story with Donnie. He is one hell of a character. I have more stories for the history threads now....
