Check out these new hollow wooden surfboards. They were made in Taiwan. They ride great too.
What wood is that?
Who’s the builder?
I dig the fish outline…
looking on ebay last night i found a whole load of chinese made epoxy wood boards that were cheaper than buying a Bic… disgraceful!
dont know how they’d ride or last tho.

charlie don’t surf
John, that’s going on a T shirt, and maybe as a logo on my next board to hide one of my mistakes. Not like your government is adverse to covering up f*ck ups. (or ours, sorry forgot, same thing!)
Peace!
Hey S.
Yup, I’ve seen those, they would look OK if it wasn’t for the hideous great big stupid ugly sesame street logo on em. Shame, it kinda devalues the real thing somewhat when you can pick up a mass-produced wooden pop-out for peanuts. I’m sure they ride really good though…Pah!
Peace!

Must have sold them all already, can’t find them… Linky?
I’d love to hear more about these Taiwanese boards… Are they coming from some boutique shaper’s shop, or is this the next wave of the asian invasion?
Im not really sure if youd call this a boutique. More of a concrete ghetto shack operation. I dont really have much extra money for tools or clamps, so this is what I came up with. Its a step up from the hotel rooftop board build if anyone remembers that one.
this one happened in a spare bedroom, glassing in the livingroom after we moved from that house to the next one. Landlords were really upset when they came and visited 4 days before we moved out and saw a a few boards being glassed and scattered around the house in various stages. But they were pleasantly surprised when they came to inspect the house when we moved out and it was spotless.
The wood is Luan plywood. its the only suitable thing Ive found in my little po dunk town. Its amazing that paulownia is a native species to taiwan but nowhere to be seen in lumber yards. Still the marine resin too, but real 4oz surfboard cloth this time.
Dont worry, my one or two boards a month wont be causing any kind of invasion.
Awesome! Love the clamping system, are those just hunks of PVC pipe that are pried open to clamp? Cools stuff!
thanks, and yes, pvc pipe
Thomas, excellent work there. I like the rocker/clamping table set up. Very resourceful with the clamping. Gravity rocks donit?
Peace!
A guy hosting an art show once told me, “The only true art, is industrial art”. I don’t know about the semantics, but to me, there is great beauty in those photos.
