Just wondering about some of the swayholics’ magic boards. What made them so? One of my all time favorite boards (magic) was an 8’8" Brian Bulkley shape that I bought used back when I was in high school. This thing hauled ass!! It was a winged pintail that had a narrow outline and a 10" black fin. Not too much rocker either, which was rare considering that this was around the time when bigger boards were making a comeback and alot seemed like they had the same amount of rocker as a 6’4" thruster. Don’t remember all the dimensions because this was in the days when I didn’t know as much about board design and all of my boards were used due to financial constraints. I remember thinking the fin was pretty damn big at the time, but now I wonder if it caused the board to be as drivey as it was? You could do some cheater fives on it, but it was more of a speed shape/carver. Ofcourse, I sold it (big mistake) and have no idea where it ended up. I’m from Texas and haven’t seen any of Bulkley’s boards (long or short) in quite some time. Is he still shaping? Well, here’s to magic boards and all those who make them. Great memories and more to come. Thanks,Brian!

Thanks,Brian! i’ve been told by somebody who claims to personally know brian, that he is in spain, making boards and money hand over fist. this person along with a couple of other friends own/have owned some of his shapes and seem to have/had the same results as you’ve experienced. it’s curious, the evolution heading under the “west coast shapers” area of this website says he and wayne lynch are the shapers for evolution surfboards…yes, magic boards, may everyone afford the opportunity to own one…
