I was planning on making a glass-on fin that is 9 1/2" with a 6 1/4" base. The fin template is somewhat like the Hawaiian Surfline fin by Rainbow. I was just wondering how many yards of cloth I would need. My friend thinks I would need about 30 sheets of 10oz. cloth but he’s not that sure about it. Also, how much laminating resin will I need? Thanks for the info, Michael
i haven’t made a lot of fins, but i’m not sure i’d use 10 oz. cloth. i made a panel the other day just over 3/8" thick by using 6 oz. x 36 layers. as far as quantity goes, it depends on the size of panel that you want to lay up. i did a 10 x 17 inch panel and used almost 3/4 qt. of resin. as far as cloth goes, if you’re making a rectangular panel, you can do the math for yardage. good luck>>> I was planning on making a glass-on fin that is 9 1/2" with a 6 > 1/4" base.
