Making my first Board

New to the Forum, it looks great.

I have just bought a 7’10" partially shaped blank (machine made by the looks!). It has very sharp edges along the full length where the bottom meets the rails. My research (conducted over several beers at my local) suggests that they should stay sharp along the back 3’ and then become a radius.

My questions are how sharp and how much radius.

I propose glassing the board with Triaxial or biaxial glass and epoxy. I thought I’d put a 4" wide strip of carbon along the middle top and bottom…

What say you experts?

Getting cold here in Wales so this might see me through to the spring without having to put on that vile old wetsuit…

Cheers Rik

Hi - I’d say that was a blank from Homeblown you bought, thier machine cannot turn the bottom of the rails or put in concaves in as the cutting head on their machine is a drum cutter not a router bit.

you will need to shape these yourself (usually only the tail of aboard will have flat rails) also you may want to change the tail design

Give the blank a going over with aluminum oxide paper 220 grit to clean it up and smooth it.

Where if you get you epoxy and carbon cloth from?

Welcome and enjoy.
