hey everyone,
I was just thinking while sitting in class today about how to build some wooden keel fins for my fish to fit in my futures boxes. Does anyone have any Ideas? I have read the thread on making wooden keel fins. That technique would work great if I wanted zero cant. I was hoping to put about 4 degrees of cant into the fins. Any Ideas would be great. I was thinking of trying to bend the ply before lamination…
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance
Josh
Check out this thread on molding fin boxes:
Plus One on molding fin boxes
Same concept, just using ply instead of lexan. Sand the tab down so you can get your 4 degrees of cant then mold the base on using chopped glass and resin. The pictures in that thread illustrate the concept much easier than I can try and explain it in words.
cool i will check that out thanks man
if you have got the time , then doing up a mould is the way to go …
you want to sand your base thin enough so even after it is glassed , it will still have cant in the box . then mould the difference …
just make sure the glass goes all the way to the base of the fin and use heaps of fibre and rovings in the moulded section …

Hey Bert can we look forward to any step by step instructionals on how to make the future base fins?
hey after the mold is done then do you just trace another fin and sand it down until it fits right? not sure what the best way to make the notches with? just sand paper? Dremel tool…Any suggestions on what tool is best for this sanding
Thanks
Josh
