Marine Ply in Encinitas area

Looking to make some D-Fins for trophies, anyone have a local source for marine ply in the encintias area?

Any local lumber yard should carry marine ply. If not check out hardwood suppliers.

is marine ply a must for your application… it’s $70 a sheet at the lumber yard here in Dana Point…

How about a cabinet shop for scrap pieces of premium faced multi ply?

If it's for trophies, why do you need marine ply?

The "marine ply" available at MOST local lumber yards like those in Dana Point (and San Diego) is typically just Douglas Fir plywood made with water & boil-proof glue and because it's Doug Fir it's kind of hard to sand nice foils into it.

Almost all but the very cheapest ply wood these days is made with waterproof glue. It's the absence of voids and patches and quality of veneer that set good marine ply like Meranti, Sapelli & Okuome apart from the rest.

Meranti, Sapelli & Okuome are somewhat harder to find and are even more expensive, but much more user friendly. Sort of a waste to cut them up for your purpose. Pretty sure there is no ready source for them in SD county.   If there is, I'd like to know about it.

The 5' X 5' sheets of Baltic Birch or even 4' X 8' "shop grade" A/C are readily available and would work just fine for trophies.

Much easier to find and used by MANY fin makers for years.
